“Beauty and Tranquility!”

Villas Hermosas

5 of 5 stars
colorado
May 8, 2008

After a long, cold winter in Colorado, we began our Costa Rican vacation at Villas Hermosas. The peace, the quiet, and the surrounding beauty found there, was exactly what we needed! The grounds of the property are very pretty, and well kept. The beach, (right there!), is wild, nearly deserted, and absolutely gorgeous! The Villas themselves, are quite spacious, comfortable, and stocked with all the necessities.
Unfortunately, we did not get to meet Tara and Brad, who were off in SJ for a few days, but their stand-ins, Christy and Pete, were worthy substitutes. They were very friendly and helpful, as were all the staff.
Should we return to the Mal Pais area, I would not hesitate to return to Villas Hermosas.

Vermont

Villas Hermosas is a real gem. We will definitely be back. Owners Brad and Tara are excellent and hard working hosts, their staff are wonderfully friendly, courteous and helpful, and their gardens are truly amazing! Perhaps the nicest thing about Villas Hermosas - aside from the delicious breakfasts under the dining/relaxing rancho, and the space and privacy that the villas offer - is that it offers many of the creature comforts that we enjoy at home, just a minute walk from one of the world's most beautiful beaches. Ancient Pochote trees, surfing waves for all abilities, tropical jungle, beautiful tide pools and Tico culture make up just a short list of things you can spend time exploring within walking distance... To top things off, the sun sets right in front of the property over the sea, through the monkey-friendly almendra trees that shade the way between the villas and the beach itself.

We have no doubt that Villas Hermosas will once again provide us with some high quality relief from the often cold and gray days of winter in Vermont.

Los Angeles

My husband and I were delighted to stay in the Honeymoon Suite for 6 nights. It was so calming to hear the ocean at night and see it from the romantic canopied king bed in the morning.

Breakfast in the Rancho was great with a variety of everyday options and one daily special so you don't get bored. The pool was cleaned everyday and the grounds were meticulously tended. The owners were very friendly and arranged a massage and a fishing trip that was the highlight of my vacation, and it was my first time fishing!

I saw many kinds of animals on the property: howler and capuchin monkeys, bats, iguanas, anteater, and lots of geckos. The beach is beautiful. The pool is a great place to cool off. I loved napping in the hammocks.

The Honeymoon suite has a more rustic feel with the handmade wood cabinets. The bed was comfy and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic. Geckos do gather near the porch lights at night and one or two did get into the suite. If you are scared of small lizards, maybe Costa Rica isn't for you. I got to see one of the family villas and it was thoroughly modern and beautiful, clearly brand new.

I can't wait to go back. Pura Vida!

“Fantastic Spot”

Villas Hermosas

Mar 31, 2008

We stayed at Villas Hermosas at the end of a 10 day trip and couldn't have been happoer. We only wish we had stayed there longer. The villa was perfect. Great layout, clean, nice and very comfortable. The property is in a nice quiet location with easy access to the beach and great surfing. Tara and Brad along with the rest of the staff made us feel welcome and as if we were long time friends. They gave us great recommendations for two of the best dinners we have had anywhere.

Overall a fantastic place and we look forward to coming back soon. My only concern is that it will become too popular and hard to get into, but they were such nice people, I can only hope for their success.

We had a decent stay here but I do think their website is a tad misleading. In reality, it is not as nice as their web photos display. The photos on this travel site are more accurate and I highly suggest looking at these to get a true feel for the place. The location is nice in some ways(ie. beach right there) but it is quite far to get to most shops and restaurants. It seems to be more suited for families with small children. I also think the price only makes sense for families. It was a bit steep in price for the facilities. It was nice having a separate housing unit but it certainly was not luxurious. It had more of an inexpensive apartment feel inside. We did enjoy the area but did feel out of the way from things.

So many of our guests have told us that our website pictures do not do this place justice, that it is much nicer and bigger than they thought. Ironically, several have told us that we really need to update our website pictures to reflect the garden that has flourished over the last 9 months, and the improvements we have made to the villas and grounds since the pictures were taken. As for the inexpensive apartment feel, we do not know of too many inexpensive apartments that are 1500 square feet with vaulted ceilings and a bricked lit dome.

Our neighbors here in Mal Pais and prior guests have all told us that our prices are very reasonable for the area and for the services offered: central a/c, free wireless internet, Serta pillow-top beds in all rooms, full kitchens with full stoves, satellite TV and DVD players with complimentary movie rentals, as well as our full breakfast, to name a few. Not to mention that we are one of only a few hotels in this area that are located beachfront, and on the exclusive beach, Playa Hermosa.

We are definitely farther from most restaurants and shops, and the busy town of Santa Teresa. That is just the way we like it, which is why we chose to buy property here and build our villas here. We always recommend that our clients rent vehicles of some sort. This way they can drive into town for the many amenities now offered, but be able to escape the dust, people, and vehicles upon their return to Villas Hermosas. They all comment how nice it is to be able to do just that.

We are well aware that you cannot please all people all the time, and that Mal Pais and Villas Hermosas may not be for everyone. However, we do not recall ever having any guests from New Jersey in our hotel’s short history. It's a shame that no pictures were posted with this review, to reflect the supposed inconsistencies between our website and the real thing. We will let our many great reviews from real guests speak for themselves.
