You know you've had an amazing vacation when you are still thinking about it 4 weeks after you have returned. Our stay at Bosque del Cabo was thoroughly researched and absolutely met and exceeded my expectations. It is a gem.
We were traveling with my 15 year old daughter and wanted an active interesting vacation. This was our first trip without having siblings with us and we didn't want her to be bored with just "the parents". We all love nature and hiking so this seemed to be the perfect choice.
We stayed in the Tucan cabina, which had a king bed and a loft with two double beds. It was nice having the extra room and gave my daughter a little privacy. We kept the windows and sliding doors open all night and never had a problem being overly hot. The amazing thing was that there were NO BITING INSECTS! We were thrilled. The mosquito netting around our bed was never used.
The trails at the resort are incredible. Well marked, well maintained, and full of interesting plants, flowers, and animals. The first hike we took we spotted about 30 monkeys! They were jumping from tree to tree and one white faced monkey actually walked on the suspension bridge and got quite close to us. We hiked every day and saw new and interesting things on each path. One of the best hikes is down to the Pacific to an incredible waterfall. The hiking kept us busy during the day and then we would head to the bar and play cards or dice games with some of the friends we met at the lodge before dinner. After dinner, we just crashed. We were up with the howlers at around 5:30 and went to bed around 9:00. Not our usual routine at all, but it was perfect for our time in Costa Rica.
We loved meeting all the other guests at the resort during dinner. The people that are attracted to this type of resort seem to be outgoing, interesting, and well read, and from all over the United States and Canada. The food is great. We especially liked the breakfasts and lunches. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.
For excursions, I would highly recommend the dolphin boat trip and animal sanctuary visit. Considering the horrible car ride out of Bosque, you want your excursions to be worth the effort--this one definitely is. We saw hundreds of bottle nose and spinner dolphin. At the sanctuary, the howler monkey LuLu took a shine to our daughter and climbed on her and didn't want to go to anyone else. It was a highlight for her.
I think the best thing about Bosque is the fact that it is so remote. The beauty of the grounds with the enormous trees and lush plants and flowers is stunning. I only hope that they are able to maintain this pristine place with all the development that is taking place all over Costa Rica. I can't wait to go back.
