“For some....”

The Westcliff

4 of 5 stars
London, United Kingdom
Mar 22, 2008

Nice hotel.... but certainly not the best I have ever stayed in. Rooms are very spacious - however just seem a bit dated (although a lot of that has to do with the chose decor of the hotel). Needing a shutle to go from the lobby to your room or up to the bar/resturaunt is rather inconvenient - however some might find this part of the charm??? (the hotel is built on a hill).
The staff are good (actually fabulous, save for the front desk staff who are adequate - but really don't go out of their way).
Overall property is lovely - landscaping is well kept. Views from the Polo lounge are not to be missed

“Very Nice Hotel”

The Westcliff

4 of 5 stars
Dallas, Texas
Mar 9, 2008

The "rooms" are actually more like apartments, very spacious and comfortable. The grounds are beautifully kept. It's all on a hill so you either hike up and down or the staff will take you in carts. There's a nice infinity pool at the top and some great views of suburban Johannesburg. The staff was friendly and attentive. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and delicious.

“Totally First Class Experience”

The Westcliff

5 of 5 stars
Central NJ, USA
Feb 25, 2008

I traveled with my daughetr (who was on business) to the Westcliff where we stayed for 7 nights. Everything about this hotel was first class. The location, property and grounds are meticulously cared for and just stunningly beautiful. But that is only the beginning ! The people are the real heart of this hotel experience. Everyone we interacted with (concierge, bell staff, wait staff, drivers, etc..) went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and not wanting for anything ! They were friendly and truly interested in ensuring that we had a very positive experience in their beautiful country.
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone and only regret that it such a long trip from the USA !

“Faultless accommodation”

The Westcliff

5 of 5 stars
Edinburgh, United Kingdom

When it comes to guests' comfort, nothing has been overlooked in this very fine hotel. We had a junior suite which was not just big, it was extra big. It was beautifully carpeted, tastefully decorated, very comfortably furnished and had marvellous beds and pillows.

The external wall had large bay windows and double doors leading to a spacious balcony furnished with table, chairs, sunbed and shade, from which the views were breathtaking.

Double doors on the opposite internal wall opened into a bathroom/dressing room which was larger than many hotel bedrooms. As well as a bath there were twin wash bowls, twin wardrobes and storage drawers, a very spacious shower cublcle and a separate WC. Lots of fluffy white towels were accompanied by quality Molton Brown toiletries of every description, bathrobes and slippers. The all-important electronic safe was also accommodated in this room.

Housekeeping was of the highest standard with a nightly turn-down service, when the room was also serviced, slippers placed on bedside mats and chilled drinking water and glasses placed on bedside tables.

The menu in La Belle, the hotel's main restaurant, is not extensive but the food is very good and dining in the Pool Lounge, which has its own menu, makes a nice change as the menu there is quite different. Both offer a splendid range of wines, many of which do not hurt the pocket yet are of good quality.

The hotel stands in beautiful grounds with trees and shrubs and flower beds but, because it is built on a steep cliff, taking nice long walks in the grounds is not an option. This is the only thing that we found disappointing. And because it is built on a cliff, the less mobile might have difficulty getting from their accommodation to the restaurant and bar, although shuttle cars are provided day and night.

And finally, the staff. Without exception, we found them to be courteous, attentive and friendly.

    • Liked — The wonderful breakfasts which I forgot to mention in the review!
    • Disliked — Being unable to take walks in the lovely grounds
