I spent 7 nights at The Ritz Hotel in april 2008. The Ritz Hotel is an older hotel very popular with large tourist groups.
Room: I had booked a double room which was of acceptable size, the furniture modern (small table, seat, desk, chair, bed with a pretty comfortable mattress, wardrobe with safe). the dark carpet appeared a little worn-out, though. the bathroom looked dated with old blue tiles and is in need of renovation though the equipment worked properly. windows can be opened.
Meals: continental and english breakfast (baked beans, eggs, sausages, cheese, sliced meat, joghurts, varieties of breads etc.). I had also lunch and dinner at the restaurant on the first floor (near the pool area), food was always very tasty and reasonably priced. I was told by a resident that the roof-top restaurant of The Ritz Hotel was excellent though I didn´t have meals there myself.
Staff: very friendly and approachable, always eager to help. (When I had a problem with my first room I was moved immediately).
Near the hotel on main street (2 minutes from the hotel) are many restaurants, smaller shops, a drugstore and at the corner there is a small supermarket that is open 24/7.
A stroll to the V&A Waterfront took me about 40 minutes. The location is safe, shops/residential district. ( I only walked around at daytime though and used a cab at night).
I enjoyed my stay at The Ritz Hotel and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a reasonably priced accomodation in Cape Town.
