“Friendly, but not up to expectations”

We stayed at this hotel for 4 days in december 2007, family with 3 children (8,10,12). It was booked for us and we expected some luxury in a tranquil place with a nice seaview. Well, that was a big disappointment! The hotel is tucked away between other buildings, we haven't seen a tree or flower anywhere, the hotel has a very small swimmingpool, a small breakfast/lounge area, has small corridors, the standard room has a poor bathroom, the outside looks very worn, the street is overcrowded (during Christmas especially), not what we expected at all! The hotel to us has the atmosphere of a youth hostel, maybe a bit more.
When you go out for dinner you walk to an area along the boulevard. Very crowded, beggars everywhere, low quality food, a bit scary even. It was Christmas and it seems to be beter during other periods.
It is not an area you go to with kids of 8,10, and 12. You can't get into the sea and as it is very hot you want to take a dip in the pool! Well, that is not really possible.
We feel the hosts are very friendly and helpful, but the hotel is not at all worth 4 stars, maybe 2 or 3. I think of the European kind of 'stars'-standard.

“Best Location to be in Cape Town”

We stayed in room 10 - a superior four poster room on the top floor - included a jacuzzi on the balcony overlooking Camps Bay and the nightly beautiful sunsets. The hotel only has 10 bedrooms and doesn't look much from the outside but don't let that put you off. It's a great hotel with personal service and all the facilities you need for a hotel you are just going to use as a base. It's only 2 blocks back from the beach and in walking distance of lots of restaurants. The hotel offers breakfast which is all cooked to order and if you'd like dinner they will order food in from a local restaurant so you can eat in your room or on your balcony. The rooms are spotlessly clean and have everything you need. The staff are very friendly and helpful when you want to book taxis, tours etc. The only disadvantage is the tiny pool area so if you're there in summer it's not ideal.

“Great base for Cape Town”

We stayed here for four nights in August 2007, having been recommended the hotel by Trailfinders (who we booked through).

The hotel is excellent - very friendly staff, great service, perfect buffet breakfast, very comfortable rooms (even though we had one of the basic ones), and even better views of Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Camps Bay has some great restaurants - Summerville, Primi Piatti (very cheap for pasta and pizza, and perfect for easy food at the end of a tiring day's sightseeing), and - the absolute best of the lot - The Codfather. The price of meals out, particularly compared to London (where we live), is so cheap!

I asked the hotel to arrange for an airport pick up; the driver they sent (Isaac) also drove us round the Cape for a day, and gave us his number so we were able to wander round parts of the city, knowing we had an easy ride home at the end of the day.

We had been a bit concerned about the safety/crime issue, but have to say that we never felt threatened or unsafe having just treated it like a normal city break i.e. didn't have things on show, or get out wads of cash to pay for drinks etc.

Cape Town is one of most beautiful cities we've ever been to, and we'll definitely to stay at the Primi Royal when we visit Cape Town in future.

p.s. the lift still wasn't working (see previous reviews) but it didn't matter because the staff who welcomed us had taken the cases out of our hands the minute we stepped foot out of the taxi!

This is a great hotel in a great location. This was the first stop on our three week honeymoon, and really kicked things off well. We had one of the suites, which was amazing, with an added bonus of an outdoor jacuzzi on the balcony with a sea view. The breakfasts are great and would recommend The Cod Father or Blues for an evening meal. The staff were extremely helpful. The only minor point is that the lift is not currently working and there are quite a few steps up to the room. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

“A Great Place To Stay”

Primi-Royal

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of May and would stay again when we next return to South Africa.

The hotel is small with only about 7 bedrooms. Our bedroom was one of their cheapest but we had no complaints. The bed was huge and the view of the ocean was spectacular.

Breakfast was included and is served overlooking the ocean or the mountains. Breakfast was cereal, fruit, pastries and then anything you wanted cooked with tea, coffee and juices.

The staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

There is a very short walk to the beachfront with ample places to eat, drink and relax.

It is about 25 minutes drive from airport and you can either come over the mountain or around the coast. Both ways are easy and straight forward.

Being about 10 minutes from the centre of Cape Town suited us, and again it is really easy to get to.
