We stayed here for four nights in August 2007, having been recommended the hotel by Trailfinders (who we booked through).
The hotel is excellent - very friendly staff, great service, perfect buffet breakfast, very comfortable rooms (even though we had one of the basic ones), and even better views of Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
Camps Bay has some great restaurants - Summerville, Primi Piatti (very cheap for pasta and pizza, and perfect for easy food at the end of a tiring day's sightseeing), and - the absolute best of the lot - The Codfather. The price of meals out, particularly compared to London (where we live), is so cheap!
I asked the hotel to arrange for an airport pick up; the driver they sent (Isaac) also drove us round the Cape for a day, and gave us his number so we were able to wander round parts of the city, knowing we had an easy ride home at the end of the day.
We had been a bit concerned about the safety/crime issue, but have to say that we never felt threatened or unsafe having just treated it like a normal city break i.e. didn't have things on show, or get out wads of cash to pay for drinks etc.
Cape Town is one of most beautiful cities we've ever been to, and we'll definitely to stay at the Primi Royal when we visit Cape Town in future.
p.s. the lift still wasn't working (see previous reviews) but it didn't matter because the staff who welcomed us had taken the cases out of our hands the minute we stepped foot out of the taxi!
