“Great base for Cape Town”

Primi-Royal

We stayed here for four nights in August 2007, having been recommended the hotel by Trailfinders (who we booked through).

The hotel is excellent - very friendly staff, great service, perfect buffet breakfast, very comfortable rooms (even though we had one of the basic ones), and even better views of Camps Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

Camps Bay has some great restaurants - Summerville, Primi Piatti (very cheap for pasta and pizza, and perfect for easy food at the end of a tiring day's sightseeing), and - the absolute best of the lot - The Codfather. The price of meals out, particularly compared to London (where we live), is so cheap!

I asked the hotel to arrange for an airport pick up; the driver they sent (Isaac) also drove us round the Cape for a day, and gave us his number so we were able to wander round parts of the city, knowing we had an easy ride home at the end of the day.

We had been a bit concerned about the safety/crime issue, but have to say that we never felt threatened or unsafe having just treated it like a normal city break i.e. didn't have things on show, or get out wads of cash to pay for drinks etc.

Cape Town is one of most beautiful cities we've ever been to, and we'll definitely to stay at the Primi Royal when we visit Cape Town in future.

p.s. the lift still wasn't working (see previous reviews) but it didn't matter because the staff who welcomed us had taken the cases out of our hands the minute we stepped foot out of the taxi!

This is a great hotel in a great location. This was the first stop on our three week honeymoon, and really kicked things off well. We had one of the suites, which was amazing, with an added bonus of an outdoor jacuzzi on the balcony with a sea view. The breakfasts are great and would recommend The Cod Father or Blues for an evening meal. The staff were extremely helpful. The only minor point is that the lift is not currently working and there are quite a few steps up to the room. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

“A Great Place To Stay”

Primi-Royal

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of May and would stay again when we next return to South Africa.

The hotel is small with only about 7 bedrooms. Our bedroom was one of their cheapest but we had no complaints. The bed was huge and the view of the ocean was spectacular.

Breakfast was included and is served overlooking the ocean or the mountains. Breakfast was cereal, fruit, pastries and then anything you wanted cooked with tea, coffee and juices.

The staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

There is a very short walk to the beachfront with ample places to eat, drink and relax.

It is about 25 minutes drive from airport and you can either come over the mountain or around the coast. Both ways are easy and straight forward.

Being about 10 minutes from the centre of Cape Town suited us, and again it is really easy to get to.

“Enjoyable stay in early winter”

Primi-Royal

Spent three nights at the Primi Royal in mid-May. Although we rate it as above average, we likely will stay elsewhere next time.

A temporary issue for us was that the elevator was broken and they were waiting for parts the entire time we were there. The lobby is up a long, moderately steep flight of steps and our room a level above that. Staff was quick to get our bags and take them too the room. The stairs were not an issue for us.

The lobby area is warm and inviting with great views of the pool area, table mountain and more. A first class breakfast is served there in the morning. The friendly staff recommended the nearby Primi Patti for dinner, but the menu at the hotel only mentioned pastas and pizzas. We were assured that they had lots of fish, chicken and meat specials and they did. Very enjoyable, low cost meal.

Our room was nice size with a comfortable king size bed. The bath was clean and very adequate. The walls were a bit thin and at times we heard noise from the next room.

The hotel is about three blocks off of the beach. Had it been summer, I'd have preferred to be on the main strip right off the beach if not too pricey. Between the hotel and the beach was a fabulous restaurant, the Codfather. It served sushi and fresh fish and shell fish.

The hotel is in Camps Bay, a $20 USD with tip taxi ride from the V & A Waterfront. If we returned we would either want to be closer to the beach or, more likely, closer to the waterfront.

If you stay at the Primi Royal, you will be well treated and find it comfortable. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. The hotel deserves its four star rating.

My other Cape Town stay was at Kensington Place. Look elsewhere for my review giving it a five star rating.

“Small and perfect”

A fabulous hotel. We went to sleep to the sound of the waves crashing onto the rocks (OK you could have had the window shut and the air con on but what a waste!) and woke to a wonderful view of the ocean. The bed sprinkled with rose petals on our arrival and a choccy on the turned down bed every night! All the staff were friendly, helpful and couldn't do enough for you and we will definately stay there again if we return to Cape Town.
Camps Bay itself we thought to be far nicer than any of the other areas ie. Clifton, Seapoint or even the city itself.A very convenient spot to explore from with some of the best restaurants we've ever been to round the corner (walking distance)- The Codfather (fish, fish and more fish) Summerville and Theos (best steaks ever). Table Mountain cable car close by, V & A waterfront not too far, a good jumping off point for the trip south to the Cape of Good Hope (views to die for - wild life beside your car (baboons, ostrich, eland). Signal Hill shouldn't be missed either for the views. We hired a car to do our own thing and found driving and finding your way round easy. The hotel had parking bays so no problem parking in the evening.
An ace of a hotel
