My husband and I stayed at the Sofitel for 3 nights, prior to a cruise around the Horn. I had researched hotels, had written a few, and finally booked through Tablet Hotels, who only recommend the very best. They called it "Traditional Elegance" and gave it 19 out of 20 points. I can't imagine what the missing point was for.
We were picked up at the airport by a limousine service hired by the hotel, and given the registration forms to fill out on our way to the hotel. Although we arrived in the AM, one of our rooms was ready. We had booked two connecting rooms and they were perfect, with a foyer between the rooms and an outside locking door to the hall.
We lacked for nothing: free internet(we had our own laptop), marble bathrooms, Roger y Galet amenities, a separate shower and bathtub, free breakfast and wonderful, friendly employees, especially the front desk, concierge Pablo, and the bellboys.
We had drinks in the bar before dinner and fell in love with Pisco Sours. We ate at the hotel restaurant, Le Sud, two nights and went to a dinner/tango show at El Querendi the third night. It was fantastic--both food and show.
Our best purchase in Buenos Aires was going to Silvia y Mario's to purchase leather coats. They are the best! We both got lamb jackets--mine had to be made which they do overnight, and my husband had an inside zipper put in his. Both were ready by 1 PM the next day. And they wanted to be paid in cash or personal check, if possible.
We wished we had stayed at least one more day in Buenos Aires, and would definitely stay at the Sofitel.
