“Loved the Calafate and El Mirador del Lago”

Hotel El Mirador del Lago

My husband and I spent four days at El Calafate and stayed at the Mirador del Lago. Since I am originally from Argentina I was not treated as nicely as they treated the European tourists that came with us on the same shuttle. Their room was ready and ours wasn't. That was a disappointment. We went to walk around town and had lunch at a pizza place. The hotel location is on the main street so you can walk to restaurants and shops. Please notice that on July a lot of businesses are closed until September (that was very surprising since there were a lot of tourists). The rest of the stay was great!! The room was big and comfortable. We had a beautiful view of the lake, and every day we had some little gift on the bed waiting for us (like chocolates, a little souvenirs from the hotel, etc.). The breakfast buffet was very good and had a lot of variety. The free Internet access and the bar were another nice feature. We had dinner at the Hotel Restaurant and it was very romantic and great quality. Remember that El Calafate is a small town in Argentina and it still growing so you have to be conscious of some glitches their amenities may have compared to those of the United States. We really enjoyed our stay at El Mirador del Lago.

“Disappointing”

First of all we were given a room with a view of the back of the hotel, awful. After being moved to a room with a ¨lake view¨(201) we discovered that we had a partial view of the lake obscured by the roof of the front of the hotel.Furthermore it was next to the heating room so the heat and noise of the boilers were annoying.Bed uncomfortable, tiny room and bathroom with a horrible old grey suite. The gardener was trimming the hedge every afternoon so impossible to have a nap after being out all day.Staff totally disinterested and surly.Make sure you get breakfast early 7am as by 8am all the bacon and eggs had gone ,when we asked for more we were bluntly told NO!!
The website shows all the rooms on the right of the hotel with large windows overlooking the lake, unfortunately they dont show the rooms on the left hand side with the tiny corner windows(rooms 201-213).Really disappointed by this hotel and would suggest that there are nicer hotels in calafate. We did not feel at all welcome in this place........awful.

“Room with a View”

Hotel El Mirador del Lago

Had the good fortune to have this hotel included in a package I booked through LatinAmerica4less. From the moment you ride up to the front door, you can tell this is something special. The hotel, facing Lago Argentina, has a very well maintained exterior. The rooms are very comfortable with all the ammenities you would expect of a first class hotel. I had visited at the end of tourist season, so I stayed in a room opposite the lake that had a window seat that added to the overall experience.

The entire staff of the hotel is extremely helpful. I had a little trouble getting to the post office during business hours, but the reception desk was able to issue stamps very early on a Saturday morning as well as mail postcards after my departure (about two weeks to reach the United States).

The sunrises and sunsets either viewed from the room or directly on Lago Argentina are spectacular.

The town of El Calafate provides a relaxing experience and good base from which to visit the Perito Moreno Glacier. The Mirador Del Lago hotel is within a short walk to the small downtown area that includes various shopping opportunities, a supermarket for comfort food, and several travel agents through which tours of the Glacier and surrounding area can be booked.

Since this was included as part of a package tour, I can't address my precise cost of the rooms. However, in doing some reasearch for a possible future visit, it seems to be a moderately priced hotel. The rates would vary by season (I was there in May 2006).

The Mirador Del Lago would be good for anyone looking for a relaxing experence.

“Terrible service”

Hotel El Mirador del Lago

Jun 8, 2007

I stayed at this hotel last april, the hotel is very nice, but the atenttion is terrible, not nice at all. They gave us a room next to the heat center without any view, so the noise was terrible and we change rooms, new room was a little quiet than the first one, but the beds were really uncomfortables, no view again and I couldn´t even get a hair dryer, the bar was open but no one came to ask for our order.
I´ll never come back to this hotel , the prices are to expensive compared whit the service and the luck of amability of their staff.

“Good place to stay”

Hotel El Mirador del Lago

Apr 11, 2007

My wife and I stayed here in April 2006. The hotel is a pleasant inn offering clean, comfortable accommodations. It is located on the main
road in town, just a kilometer or two from the main part of downtown.

Our spacious room was well appointed with all the conveniences one expects from a good tourist hotel. The bathroom--fitted with attractive natural stone--was particularly nice. We opted for a lake view room which had a small window seat with views to the lake. Though the lake is across the road somewhat, the views were good. The
staff were helpful, and the plentiful breakfast was tasty. They had 2-3 computers with free (though very slow) internet access. The only down side of our visit was a lunch in the hotel’s dining room. We ordered off the menu at an off-peak time and were the only ones in the dining room. My chicken sandwich did not agree with me and the lingering effects stayed with me ‘til the next day. I’d recommend
eating at the hotel during breakfast and/or their popular dinner--skip lunch.
