This is an excellent place within the cabin category. The staff speaks English, are very helpful and made our first stop a positive experience. A bit out of town, easy enough to walk or take an inexpensive taxi. The cabins are new and clean. Ate at the restaurant one evening, best meal we had in Calafate.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. As others have said, it isn't in the centre of town. It takes about 30 minutes to walk and it isn't much fun with the wind and the uneven pavement. Taxis are cheap and plentiful (most of the time). Don't try to save money by taking the airport transfer bus, you will be the last to be dropped off and it will take over an hour.

We found the cabin was very nice and comfortable. As noted there is limited hot water, but we didn't find that to be a major problem. There are a huge number of channels on the TV, but most of them don't seem to work. There are great views from the cabin. Cats whined for a while during the night, which kept us awake.

Thomas was the only person we talked to at reception. He is eager and tries hard (he was great in helping us with a driver to take us to the glacier) but we had a couple of problems. The main problem was that we had prepaid our accommodation through a reputable and very well known website, but we were asked to pay again because Solares del Sur had not received payment. I tried to help them sort it out by talking to the agency on the phone. Solares del Sur charged us for the phone call, even though they were the ones who wanted to make the call.

I also asked for help booking a bus to Puerto Natales. Thomas never made the reservation (even though he said he did) but luckily we managed to book it ourselves the evening before we left. But then Thomas was extremely helpful when our taxi didn't turn up in the morning and we made it to the bus with only a minute or two to spare.

Maybe we were just unlucky but these problems gave the impression of an amateur operation. Combined with the non-central location, this means I would stay somewhere else if I ever returned to El Calafate.

We were hosted my wife and I, between 1 / 12 and 5 / 12, we loved the service that we assure the Staff, including the rooms have an excellent lake view and are also fully equipped for a comfortable feel. Also I think it is very important to note that the service we seemed as good as the hotel staff we fix any problem there and for which it is very important to the tourist.
On the other side, speaking of his restaurant Quidu, it is important to note 3 things:
1. The excellent panoramic view of the argentine lake.
2. The kindness with which responds to the very special people, and besides the homely style which gives you.
3. Their excellent dishes very good level and also an economical price (ask especially the spine glaceado with rosti potatoes).

I just spent 3 nights at Solares and I just have to say I cant understand the rest of the reviews. Ill be as objective as possible, you make up your mind:

Pros:
-Cheap
-Friendly staff
- Cabins are spacious

Cons:
-3 kms from town, in good weather you could walk, when windy youll prefer a cab.
-The shower is literally, 2ft x 2ft. Hard to bathe in there.
-The Tv which we wanted to watch after a very cold day at the glaciers tunes about 8 channels, but believe me when I say the worst ones, nothing to see.
-The bed comforter smelled like a duster, I pulled it to my face once and started sneezing.
-The water heater is just outside the bedroom, in the way to the bathroom, in full view, not nice.
-We stayed in a cabin and the bedroom has no curtain on the upper windows, usually not a problem but the sun comes up at around 5 am in El Calafate, so youll be waking early.
