“great place to stay”

Kau Yatun

We stayed here for 3 nights in March. Really enjoyed our stay - the grounds are very pretty, the staff pleasant, and the rooms are nice. This place is on the edge of the town, takes about 15 mins to walk - and about 5 mins to walk to the La Tablita restaurant (of note - the map of El Calafate in the lonley planet has this hotel in the wrong part of town) . When we went on our glacier tours (we arranged these throught he hotel) and the bus picked up people from the other hotels -we thought we were lucky to be staying at our place - as many are on the top of the hill, surrounded by dust, and i would think it would be a long walk into town for dinner. We ate at the restaurant one night - it was expensive and food average. Watch out for the bar tab - as drinks are very expenisve. On the whole really liked this place and would definately stay here again if ever in town!

“Not what it says on the tin”

Kau Yatun

Kau Yatun has much to recommend it. The service is impeccable and the restaurant cuisine is excellent. But the unmodernised rooms scarcely merit four stars and the hotel is no longer el campo. El Cafalate's sprawling urbanisation has enveloped the grounds of the old estancia, and Kau Yatun now sits within a straggly townscape, overlooked by the aesthetic horrors of the new Kempinski hotel.

If you need a base for a couple of nights, with attentive service and excellent food, choose Kau Yatan. But if its Patagonian landscape and good value for money you're after, opt for one of the estancias away from the tourist monoglut of El Calafate.

“great place”

This place is not luxurious, but everything is clean. The place is full room and board and the meals are excellent (as are the bartenders). Throughout the week, they have a parilla in the restaurant out towards the back of the ranch, also excellent.

The place is a 15 minute walk into the main part of town. We did two trips (included in the price of the stay) for the two full days that we were there: a visit to the Perito Moreno glaciar with mini-trekking (excellent) and a tour of all the glaciars. Kau Yatun provides lunches for the day trips.

The only negative was that they missed a wake-up call for us on the first morning. I would definitely stay there again.
