Tierra de Leyendas

5 of 5 stars
Toronto, Ontario
Mar 15, 2008

Due to late bookings and high occupancy, we spent our first two nights in Ushuaia in early February/08 at Los Cauquenes and the second two nights at Tierra de Leyendas. The former is a more substantial property, has an exercise room and a nice dining room, but Tierra de Leyendas has it beat for charm, warmth and value. If we could have stayed all four nights at Tierra de Leyandas, we would have.

The owners met at the Marriott in Buenos Aires, where Sebastien was a chef and Maria was working in reservations. They settled in Ushuaia, where Maria and her family are from. As a result of their Marriott experience, they know exactly what to offer their guests and they do it perfectly. We were amazed at the dinner menu selection for such a small establishment and enjoyed terrific meals. The temptation is to go into town for dinner to eat at one of the touristy restaurants promoting King Crab dinners, but you won't do better than to eat in here and relax.

We booked on the basis of reviews from the Trip Advisor web site and they were bang on!

“Great Service at Tierra de Leyendas”

Really enjoyed our stay at Tierra de Leyendas in Ushuaia.
Lovely rooms, great food, exceptional service.
Staff all speak english & go out of their way to help you find your way around, help you with bookings etc.
Tierra de Leyendas is not in centre of town, but only a short cab ride away. They also offer free pick up from airport.
Not sure price of other hotels in Ushuaia, but I think it compares quite well.

“What a brilliant hotel”

Tierra de Leyendas

We stayed at Tierra de Leyendas for two nights prior to a trip to Antarctica. We'd booked it on the strength of the reviews on Tripadvisor, and we weren't disappointed. The owners, Sebastian and Maria, are hands on, and are genuinely nice people who are concerned that their guests have a good experience. Sebastian is also the chef, and we had dinner there one night - it was excellent. Our room overlooked the Beagle Channel (3 of the 5 rooms have these lovely views), and was spacious, with plenty of storage. The bathroom was nice. Fresh decor, very good breakfasts, friendly and helpful staff, and free internet access for guests.
When we left, we made some suggestions for some minor improvements; our Antarctic trip was aborted, and we therefore ended up spending an unexpected extra night at Tierra de Leyendas about 10 days later; we were extremely surprised and impressed that each of our suggestions had already been acted upon. Now THAT'S a hotel that cares.

“Fantastic”

Fantastic in every way.

Superb friendly helpful staff - made us feel so welcome and special on arrival.

Rooms was beautifully furnished, lovely modern bathroom with great shower, and best of all panoramic views over the Beagle Channel.

Seb (Chef & Owner) provided some of the best food we found in Argentina. Definitely worth eating at the hotel. Wish we had eaten there both nights!! Breakfast very good too.

Selection of books, videos, and lounge area. All the trimming you'd expect with a top class small and informal boutique hotel.

Loved our stay.

“"A great b & b at the end of the world"”

Tierra de Leyendas

Feb 19, 2008

We just returned from a whirlwind trip to Argentina, which included a few days down in Ushuaia. We booked on-line with the owners (Sebastian and Maria) about a month before our arrival. Maria responded to our emails so quickly and provided many helpful tips and recommendations about excursions while we were in Ushuaia.

From the complimentary pick-up at the airport to painstaking attention to all of the details, we truly enjoyed our time while at Tierra de Leyendas. It is a beautiful B&B located on a hill with amazing views of the Beagle Channel and the mountains. We were welcomed with glasses of wine, chocolates for valentine's day, and delicious buffet breakfasts. It was the warmest hospitality from any hotel that we have ever stayed in. The owners truly made us feel special - we even received a special private lesson on Mate (the national drink) during one of our breakfasts.

The only negative comment (not really a downfall) is it's location - it is about 4 km away from town and about a 12 pesos cabride (about 10 minutes). If you are interested in being in the center of Ushuaia - this b&b is not within walking distance. We went into town every night after our daily excursions and actually did not find it to be a downfall - we were able to come back to a warm and inviting environment, away from the touristy downtown area. Anytime we needed a cab, the staff would promptly contact one; we never waited more than 5 minutes for a cab to arrive.

Other perks include free internet access and tons of free DVD's to borrow...
