We have just returned from a short stay at ¨Los Cauquenes¨ on a tour around Argentina. We found it to be a lovely relaxing hotel with stunning views over the beagle channel to the snow capped Andes and Chile. The spa is well equipped and the in-out pool was great before a hot jacuzzi and sauna.Large rooms with very comfortable beds and bathrooms.
The restaurant is reasonably priced with a varied menu and ample wine list, again with stunning views. The breakfast buffet is extensive and very enjoyable. An ideal choice for a relaxing few days
The hotel provides a free mini bus to Ushuaia running every hour or so up until about 23.30 which is ideal if you want to have an early dinner downtown.
Would recommend this resort to anyone, really enjoyed it!

My husband and I living in Buenos Aires, flew to Ushuaia after 4 days in El Calafate. We chose this hotel after visiting its website. It was certainly a choice beyond expectation. Wonderful and extensive views from terraces and room , very quiet surrounding, comfortable and well equipped room (superior w/view to Breagle Channel). Large, elegant- though not stiff- common areas: lobby, bar, restaurant, etc., also very well decorated with leather sofas and local tapestries. The spa, gym and pool accommodations were also roomy and clean.
Breakfast buffet was really first class with the additional of magnificent , sunny views while enjoying it. Also tried dinner and were no disappointed at all: same quality and excellent service.
Just about 10/15 minutes from downtown it was a great stay for us that like quiet, non crowded or noisy places. We regretted not having planned one extra day to be able to stay there doing nothing but enjoying. Want to experience? Book in advance!!

“A nice stay, flawed only by a strange early checkout”

I spent one night at Los Cauquenes in late January, 2007. Based on that brief experience, I recommend the hotel, subject to a caveat.

I selected Los Cauquenes after being unhappy with the reviews I saw of Las Hayas. Los Cauquenes is very new, and on the shores of the Beagle Channel with nice views of the Chilean Isla Navarino and the Ushuaia airport peninsula (it appears to be part of a very upscale vacation home development). There was a prompt English-language reception and good service getting us to our room. Our room, which was on the top floor, had a splendid view of the water (not all the rooms do – the non-view rooms look out to the dusty unpaved local street). It was well appointed, and had adequate seating and comfortable beds.

We ate lunch and dinner at the hotel, and I was very pleased with the food (lunch was good, dinner was very good (king crab with drawn butter and an herbed mayonnaise followed by tenderloin of veal with a couscous risotto and onions poached in red wine. Dessert was a berry soup with coconut ice cream and a coconut wafer). Breakfast was also among the best 5 of the 15 hotels during my trip.

The bar and public areas of the hotel are nicely appointed, and are welcoming.

We had a rental car – for those who do not, the hotel has van service to and from the downtown (which, having spent an afternoon there, I can’t understand why anyone would really want to go there).

The only unpleasant part of our stay came on the morning of departure, when I learned that the checkout time was at 10:00am. I was so shocked that I didn’t ask for an extension (although when the reception desk staff informed me of the 10am checkout at 9:15am, they did not offer to extend the time) – so I don’t know whether an extension would have been granted (from the immediate prior review it sounds like it would have been -- bad on me for not asking). I found the extremely early checkout so odd as to be bizarre.

Other than the bad taste of having to pack up about an hour and a half earlier than planned, I enjoyed my stay at Los Cauquenes.

“A good choice”

This hotel is located right on the Beagle Channel a few miles outside of downtown Ushuaia. It is not within walking distance of a commercial area. It is good quality and the restaurant is also good. The prices are high for Argentina, but reasonable by US standards for this type of accomodations. The hotel has an unreasonably early check out time of 10 a.m. The staff speaks English a little bit, but not fluently. The rooms are on the small side (for the cost) but nicely appointed. I recommend getting a room with a view of the Beagle Channel.
