“Newly Renovated Property!”

Holiday Inn Phoenix Downtown North

4 of 5 stars
Reading, PA
Mar 13, 2008

We ended up here after a flight issue at Sky Harbor-Phoenix. The hotel is about 15-20 minutes away and about a $25 cab ride. There is no shuttle from the airport. We booked two rooms. Check-in was smooth, and the front desk folks were friendly. We had to wait for one of the rooms to be cleaned because we wanted two close to each other, and one of the desk clerks offered some of our party some complimentary coffee drinks from the coffee bar in the lobby. That was a very kind gesture. Since we're Platinum Priority Club members, we also got nifty little welcome bags with water, fruit, and chocolates.

The rooms were average to smallish in size, each with two double beds. Not much of a view, just the downtown Phoenix city-scape. There are no balconies. Nice flat-screen TVs in the room. When the TV across the room wasn't working, we called the front desk and someone from the staff was up almost immediately to correct the problem.

The property seems to be just about done with renovations, so you may still encounter a few rough edges at present, but nothing that would put me off staying here.

The bathrooms were clean and functional, although our room was out of tissues. The room across the hall seems to have AC that isn't really working that hard. The double beds were comfortable, if maybe a little small for grown-ups.

Nice little business area downstairs with two PCs and a printer.

Overall, I can't say there weren't a couple issues, but overall, the staff did a great job fixing the small things that weren't quite up to par. We enjoyed our short stay and would recommend it if your business takes you to this part of Phoenix.

Wow... Where to begin...
I travel alot because of my ACN business and also take care of all the hotel bookings for hundreds of people in my ACN business. We just came back from Phoenix convention and the owner M. PATEL gave us ABOVE AND BEYOND service in every way possible. From all the hotels my group And I have been to, beleive me when I say that NEVER have I gotten such personilized service. The hotel itself is BRAND NEW, the food at the Morgan Tyler steak house is great! The staff all through the hotel is the best I have ever seen! As a coordinator of events, I was completly blown away by the quality of the services from the front desk people to the barman and waiters but especially the owner M. Patel who is HANDS ON, allways there wanting to make your stay perfect!!! His customer service skills are simply remarquable!!!
One word to describe my experience: IMPRESSED!!!
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL!!!

“Brand New”

Holiday Inn Phoenix Downtown North

3 of 5 stars
Chicago

I just returned to Chicago from Pheonix. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Midtown for the Superbowl.

The property just opened after a renovation and I must say it was tastefully done - modern and simple. Of course when something is brand new there are always glitches.

The rooms are on the small side and do not have much of a view. There is a fridge and coffee maker with Starbuck's coffee. The huge comfy chair is a nice touch.

The towels were so new they left tons of white lint in my dark hair. The heat didn't really warm the room but sounded like a jet was landing in my room. I finally turned it off and kept making noises the whole time. The shower went from cool to warm to hot to cool all in one 5 minute shower all three days I was there.

The lobby is nice, modern and open and the pool is small but interesting with rocks and plenty of chairs.

The place is way under staffed and seemd very confused most of the time. While everyone was pleasant and tried really hard, the manager walked around and looking nervous. He didn't offer to help though.

The lobby resaurant was booming the morning of the Superbowl but there was 1 cook and 1 waiter. I kept hearing how all of the orders were wrong while I waited 20 minutes for a cup of regular coffee (not a blended drink) at the Starbuck's counter staffed by the 1 waiter. The manager just kept watching and telling the 1 waiter to go get my coffee. I think the manager should have poured it himself. The waiter already had his hands full. Finally the cook just walked out - left all the customers high and dry... Why not over staff and let someone go if needed???

Oh yeah, there was also a huge fight between 4 girls and a guy in the hall to my room. Nice touch - I felt like I was in the inner city.

Overall I didn't hate the place. I think they should train the staff and have more people on duty. The views are something you can't do anything about but come on - you're in Midtown not Scottsdale.

“Brand new facility”

I was in PHX checking out some hotels to stay during the Super Bowl for my company. I stopped into Holiday Inn Midtown and spoke with the Director of Sales, Jim. The entire facility is under construction. It will be open on January 1, 2008 and will be ready for the Super Bowl. I asked about a connection fee for the telephone and they said there will be no underlying fees for either phone or internet usage.

I think it will be like staying in a brand new hotel.

“Nice facility, but questionable business practices”

I used this hotel during a recent business trip to Phoenix. At check-in, I was surprised to learn that I would have to pay an additional $24 to connect the phone service to my room. I chose not to pay, and didn't use the phone in my room -- quite an inconvenience.

Overall, I'd say that the Holiday Inn Phoenix Midtown is a nice enough looking facility, but has some questionable business practices.
