“Safire not a great place for New Years Eve 07”

We usually like this restaurant, we have returned 5 times in the last few months since we discovered it. The atmosphere is good with live jazz most weekends/holidays, eclectic menu, food is of a high standard if a bit pricey, nice wine selection, easy parking, easier to go to than LA centre on a weekend from the Valley. You can drop in for a pizza on the way back from factory shopping or go for a more romantic dinner date lounging in one of the stripey booths at the back of the restaurant. Generally a great place to visit with friends, family or a date.

Only hiccup we have had so far is when we made a New Years Eve booking two weeks prior to the day. When we made the booking we asked whether there was a special NY Eve menu or pricing and were informed it would be a normal menu with added specials as usual. No problems so far, and our NY Eve booking for 3 at 8pm was confirmed verbally then and there.

When we turned up on NY Eve we were rudely told we had no booking. The waitress at the front desk then rudely dismissed us and went onto the next guest! After 10 minutes arguing we managed to get the promise of a table at some point......not a great start to NY Eve. After another 10 minutes at the bar wondering whether we would get a meal on NY Eve the manager approached us, said he had a table and apologized for the wait. The booking had been made but it had been written down by his staff for the day we called not NY Eve. Bit sad since we had questioned the NY Eve menu when we made the booking and the actual date had been verbally confirmed to us over the phone. If you make a booking for this restaurant you need to ring back again at a later date and reconfirm as the young girls on the front desk don't seem to be able to use a calendar.

We will return, but reconfirm our bookings beforehand. We're scouting out a new favourite restaurant in the area now. Camarillo/Ventura area has a lot of good restaurants with new ones opening every day.

“Good but Expensive”

This is one of the few really nice restaurants in Camarillo, located just off the 101 at the Santa Rosa exit. It is fairly new and is really ritzy inside w/ a grand piano and a piano player at the entrance. The service was good and the food was good, but I just don't think it is worth the price, unless for a special occasion or if you have a lot of discretionary income. I'd take someone here for their birthday or something of that nature.

“Restaurant Quality Food With Poor Service”

Great ambiance. Terrific bar scene. The food is over priced and food preparation is what I would compare with my experiences at a Chili's Restaurant.
The service is truly the biggest draw back to this restarant. I've been to this eatery several times with the same outcome. The front door greeters seem confused even when you have reservations. Last night the place was empty and there was confusion on where we should be seated.
The service only gets worse with the waiters/waitresses. They don't know the menu and don't know the specials. You get one glass of water upon being seated; water refills are hard to come by because you can't find your server after they take your food order.
There were three people at my table and each of us received our food entrees at different times. It is strange watching others eat while your waiting for your entree. I waited longer than anyone at the table (about 10 minutes more than anyone) because the waitress told me the cook made a mistake with my piazza. The funny thing about this restaurant is there seems to be plenty of workers employeed. They just choose to ignor the customer.
I am done with this place. It is a convenient stop from where I live, but not worth the money spent on the average food quality and terrible service.

“Beautiful place, organized, good service”

I couldn't disagree more with the previous reviews! We went to Safire for the first time after a movie and were very impressed with the high quality service and the lovely atmosphere. We only tried appetizers and pizza, but everything was high quality and fresh, and the prices were extremely reasonable. The entrees are expensive, but not outrageously so, and I am willing to pay a bit more for good service and a quiet, adult, relaxed atmosphere. Compared to some of the "upscale" local places where the hostesses are 17 years old and have no idea why they are even there and service that is harried and disorganized and unprofessional, Safire is an oasis of calm.

Not too expensive if you're located in Encino or West LA, but Camarillo?? Entree prices are high and service is lazy. Portions are small (4 scallops on the scallop entree) and most food was served tepid. The staff seemed distracted and unaware. Kind of cool atmosphere, but the food needs to be better if they want to command those prices.
