“Shabby; no chic”

This property is located in a setting with beautiful views of the ocean, but the accomodations themselves are sorely lacking.
Our room was just plain dirty and shabby, without many of the minimum standards one would expect for $200+ per night. The carpets, bedding (both our beds had sheets with stains) curtains, and broken-down furniture need to be put in a dumpster and someone needs to do some serious deep cleaning and renovating. We were uncomfortable touching, let along sleeping, on anything in the room, and even though we opened all the windows, a stale, sour smell pervaded the place.

This is not "charm" - it's just plain neglect.

“Grandma's Retreat On The Ocean”

Monarch Cove Inn

Even if you never had a grandma who lived on the ocean, imagine the treat of going to her place. Peaceful, quiet, serene, relaxing, comforting with dramatic blue ocean views from the grounds and rooms. The big, old white house is from the 1880's so it has character. Look beyond the imperfections here and there and let yourself appreciate what it is and what it does for you. And, Lonna is the most gracious, gentle, calming host we have ever experienced. Always patient, tuned in and full of good information about what to do and where to eat, just ask her. Capitola Village is a 10 minute walk so you don't have to hassle with the car and try to find parking. Go, enjoy, relax.

“Stay way from staying at Holiday Room”

We stayed at Holiday room during this Labor day weekend and it was terrible. We absolutely loved the location by the water, but the facility needed lots and lots of work. I am not sure how they justfy charging us over $200 per night for the room when the whole cottage was falling apart.

We arrived on Sunday early afternoon and we were told that there was a wedding ont he ground. The wedding did not end until early am hours. People were drunk, yelling and honking, we could not sleep at all.

When we lifted the bedding, the right side of the sheet was wet and left side was damp, we told the B&B lady, but she didnt do much.

We put the heater all the way up, but the room was so cold at night, I ended up catching a cold.

The toilet was not bolted to the ground, so it moved everytime one of us sat on it (carefully). The bathroom was very small and the sink was very small, old and dirty, and 2 faucets for cold and hot water, so it was very unpleasant to use it. The bathroom had no air fan, so the steam would spill over to the room, make it even more damp.

The cottage had a kitchen, but the old refrigerator was so loud, it would wake us up (when we finally fell alsleep after the wedding paries quiet down well after midnight) everytime it got turned on.

The room did not have proper curtain, so people can see you from outside. The outdoor ground lamps would shine down on your eyes if you sleep on your right side (like I do). The room furnitures were falling apart...

We requested breakfast to be served at 8:30am, but didnt come well after 9am. I can go on and on...... but I'll stop here.

We loved the beaches there and next time we are in Capitola, we'll stay away from Monarch B&B.

“Soul Rejuvenation”

The Monarch Cove Inn provided just what this hard-working nurse needed--rest, relaxation and soul rejunvenation. The setting is beautiful beyond expectation, and Lonna went out of her way to accomodate our needs, and assure that we were comfortable and content. The staff is friendly, and so is the cat!

“A perfect place for a wedding”

Monarch Cove Inn

I fell in love with the Monarch Cove Inn the day I saw it. I had just got engaged and knew this is the place I wanted to get married.

Lonna, the site facilitator , was soooo helpful with helping me plan this special day. She was ALWAYS available to answer questions and was more than accomodating. She always went the extra mile with me and my family. I couldnt have done this without the help and patience of Lonna. She is a special person.

I planned the wedding over a year and a half and finally the big day had come. I had relatives all over the country come in days before the wedding. They chose to stay at Monarch Cove the week prior to the wedding. They loved the breathtaking ocean views and the comfortable accomodations. During the wedding we had all the rooms taken by family and close friends. Everyone was in awe of how beautiful the grounds are. The rooms are clean and neat. They are decorated perfectly and the grounds are neatly kept. All of the guests were so happy with their stay at the Monarch Cove.

The wedding was a dream. It was a perfect sunny day and everything went just how I envisioned it. I could not have asked for anything more perfect. I will definitely be visiting Monarch Cove on our anniversary and other special occasions. Relatives are already planning their next visit next summer and want to stay at Monarch Cove. This place is very special to us.
