“Fun for small children 3-10 yrs.”

Legoland California

We went to Legoland with our 12 yr old niece and 3 and 4 yr. old granddaughters. This was our first trip so we did not really know our way around. We plunged in by looking at the lego buildings and then started on some rides. The one that appears to be pedaled on an elevated track was a big disappointment, long wait, not special ride. Other rides were good for the little ones and the place is well maintained and there are ample food choices. Only a couple of rides the 12yr old really enjoyed. We would go again, but it is no Disneyland/Calif. Adventure. One day is plenty, but we did not go to any shows. We did get Buger King coupons which saved us $100 (2 children admissions) so that was a great deal.

“Legoland not so great”

Legoland California

Aug 19, 2008

We recently visited Legoland, California with our three children, ages 5, 6, and 8 (August 2008). After reading about the park and thinking that our children were the perfect ages, we were REALLY disappointed. The Lego displays are old and dirty- most were covered with spiderwebs.
The lines for the rides were extremely long and the rides were short and slow- the park needs to adopt a "Fastpass" system like other theme parks in the area. If your child has ever ridden a roller coaster or spinning ride at a Cedar Fair park, Six Flags park or even a state fair, he/she will be disappointed with these rides. Even though the height requirements did not affect our children's ability to ride everything, they are too strict. By the time a child is tall enough to ride, they won't want to. The Lost Kingdom Adventure had lines in excess of 60 minutes and the ride was awful. The laser guns don't make contact with anything, it's slow, short and the few Lego displays were unimpressive. The Knight's Tournament was physically painful- beware: riders must remove pierced earrings. The BEST ride was the Dragon Coaster. The displays were great and the ride was somewhat fun. The water park portion of the park is very small and hardly worth the trouble of lugging towels and swimsuits throughout the park; not to mention the fact that the weather is not exactly warm enough for getting wet and walking around all day. If we hadn't been able to save over half of the park's admission price by using coupons and Brickmaster tickets we would be even more disappointed!

“Nice Place for younger Kids”

My two sons ages 5 and 8 love Legoland. I would say as a parent that your kids should probably be under 10 years old to visit. The park is different then Disneyland and has a tough time with lines. We went to visit in July 2008 during the middle of the week and the lines were okay. We went first on the new dark ride which lets you shoot at targets. It's a fun ride, but my kids really loved playing in the ball pit next door called Pharoh's Revenge. My sons both liked the Splash Battle ride and driving the cars. The line for the older kids was fairly long to ride the cars. Both my sons liked building lego cars and racing them in one area. The food is very expensive, more so than any other amusement park we went to visit. My oldest son liked the water area which includes a big bucket of water that spills onto people. I like the ride where you get on a mechanical arm, but that's about the only thrill ride. The park is much different then some other amusement parks we have visited in the past. I would make one recommendation and that is to shop before closing time since the stores become packed at that time. Once you make your purchase just have them hold onto it until you leave the park, so you don't have to carry it around. I would agree with previous reviews that the line for the Skycoaster is too long and not really worth it. My youngest son did enjoy the rides aimed at little kids like the Beattle Bounce and the ones where you ride in planes. There are several areas in the park where you can spend even more money like miniature golf and a sand pit where you dig. I would make a plan for those areas before you visit.

“Wonderful Fun”

This is a great place to take kids. Even my husband and I had a great time just seeing what they had made out of legos. Our children, ages 3 and 11 were perfect age, as there were rides for both age groups. Legoland says this is for ages 2 to 12 and they are definitely on target. Miniland is fascinating!! Definitely worth seeing. Tickets are a little on the expensive side. I lucked out and found a special on ares travel online and they had a 2 day special ticket for $44 pp. Wish the park stayed open until 8pm instead of 6pm, as we only went back for about 3 hours the 2nd day. Probably could have seen the whole park with the extra 2 hours. Save time and skip the water area. Water was cold, very crowded and hard to watch the kids. Seemed a little chaotic.

“awful ride lines in the summer - review of some rides with 8yo”

Legoland California

Jul 2, 2008

We with our 8yo son visited Legoland during summer vacation. The three of us are easily pleased people who enjoy cute even though tacky up to mild-moderate coaster rides such as those found in DisneyWorld (not land) - we're frequent WDW visitors.

We had been looking forward to visiting because my son loves Legos. The Lego structures all over the park are really quite interesting and impressive and fun to spot among the landscape. My easy to please son enjoyed building with legos in the imagination zone which has no lines - however I expected quite a lot more lego blocks than there were available at the building tables - couldn't hardly build a bionicle figure with only legs available and no chests.

The biggest biggest deterrent to enjoying Legoland are the horribly long and slow lines for very very very short rides (very slow loading, small capacity rides - think Dumbo or Die for WDWers). It starts with the line for parking - 15 minutes to get through starting at 1015 in the morning. 1hour for the Technic coaster (liked the ride - good $10 photo too), 1 hour for the Lost Kingdom (weak imitation of Buzz LIghtyear in WDW - did have lego playing area with large lego blocks - kids play while parents wait area), 1 hour for the Log ride (definitely definitely not worth it unless you want to introduce a toddler to log rides), 45 min for Splash Battle (I really liked this though you get pretty wet shooting water at people and being shot at- this was worth the wait I think). We went counterclockwise since I couldn't find any guide/tips online to suggest a best way like the unofficial guides to disney. We got to the parking entrance at 1015 and finished pirate zone at 630 - because of the aargh lines. The Dragon coaster line was fun and this was the only fast moving line we found. We skipped rides that bounced, swung around and turned you around and the toddler rides.

The Soak and Sail waterpark was a really great water area. Definitely bring a swimsuit to the park for your kids. That was probably one of the highlights of the place - no waiting except for trying to dress up in the restrooms.

By 630, the crowd had really thinned out so we sailed into Funtown with no waits for the Firetruck - we found this really fun - family teamwork to put out a fake fire. The Volvo driving academy was really fun for our kid, too - sorry no adults and kids are split strictly to below and above 6 yo - lucky we only had one - potential problem for families with both age ranges. Sky patrol was cheesy but fun with no lines - probably not worth it if there was a line. Sky Cruiser at 7pm still had a 45 min line (kids play area while parents wait)! - skipped it. Coastersaurus was a good way to end the trip - it's short, it's just fast but they did give us 2 consecutive turns.

So we basically opened and closed the park - 1015 to 8pm. Still we did not get time to explore Miniland. We should have skipped that log ride - oh how I hate that worthless wait - and spent it in Miniland and more of let my son get soaked at the soak and sail time. Skip the racer 4d movie too- really barely any effects. The other 4d with knights and an evil sorcerer was really cute.

We brought in our water bottles. We ate lunch there - usual pricey themepark food - no surprise there. They do have chicken nuggets at the Upper Deck though it's not on the menu - it's a sit down and the wait is not long to be served - none to be seated -when eating at 3pm - lego play area with big blocks for kids while waiting for the food.

Legoland is worth visiitng once for an 8yo. Maybe better for little ones if you don't feel the need to get on rides with inefficient lines. It may also be better when it's not summer but then again the park closes at 5 when it's not July. Fastpass would a be great thing for this place. People would have more time to enjoy looking around the park then come back for their assigned times.
