“Discovery Flight”

I brought my boys out last Saturday for Discovery flights with Brandon and Dave, aka GED and Hobbs :)
They had a great time. It was one of the few days that week with no clouds or rain so they said the views were great. Thank you especially for the hands on stick time. My youngest has a dream of becoming a military pilot so I'm sure being with Brandon helped reinforce that with hard work and dedication he can acheive that goal. It was also great to have them be able to fly together in formation, thanks for the suggestion! Look forward to next time. -Cindy Wheeler

“Real Flying”

Tom

I just got home from a flight with Vintage Vic and want to tell you how much I enjoyed the trip. I hadn't been at the controls for twenty years and it felt SOOO GOOD! Vick allowed me to do some flying and then showed me a coup[le of maneuvers that I didn't have the courage to try myself. I thouroughly enjoyed myself. I've always abeen in love with open cockpit biplanes, particularly TravelAirs and Stearmans. The flight convinced me that I want a TravelAir of my own. Now to find a way to afford it.

I was a fighter pilot geek growing up, and devoured everything I could get my hands on that talked about aerial combat. But no amount of book reading or looking at tape diagrams can prepare you for the thrill of the Top Dog Air Combat flight. The crew were professional, courteous, engaging and funny. But the kicker was that they seemed to enjoy themselves every bit as much as their (in my case) giddy customers. I'm two days removed from my flight and I've developed a severe case of perma-grin. I'm hoping they'll allow me to open a frequent flyer account, as I'm sure to be going back.....again and again and again! Highest possible recommendation.

Hi Gang!
I just can't put into words how wonderful my flight was with Vic in the SNJ, but I will try. The first thing was thinking of the brave pilots who fought in WW II and who may have actually trained in the very same aircraft I was riding in. So much history. This was especially poignant as I looked out over the Pacific from 4,000 feet on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. As a retired Navy man myself, I got a little choked up imaging planes similar to the one I was in battling over the very same ocean below me. I was honored to be able to share the cockpit with those fighting ghosts of the past.
After turning inland I was offered the controls. Now flying an airplane, not just flying in a plane, has always been one of my dreams. I LOVED IT! We had very smooth air and the SNJ was such a stable and responsive girl, it was my dream and I was living it.
Now having immersed myself in the emotions, history and realizing my dream, I thought could this get any better?
IT DID!!!
At this point, Vic announced it was time for some "maneuvers" and said I was welcome to follow along on the controls. I declined the control offer (A bit chicken on my first flight) but gave Vic an enthusiastic YES on the acrobatics.
I wish I could describe it!! We went up, down, over, under and everything in between!!! I thought before the flight that this might be a little too much for me but the combination of a wonderful plane and Vic's skilled airmanship I was never afraid and experienced such a state of joy I was practically in tears!! So you could imagine my response when Vic asked if we wanted to do even more "advanced" maneuvers!!!! I can not describe it! I don't think even a video could of captured the moment.
After the thrilling acrobatics, we did a few simulated strafing runs at low altitude. That was when you really knew you were hauling butt!!!!!
Again Vic showed his experience and skill. But alas, it was time to head back to the ranch. Vic greased the old SNJ in smoother than any "tube" (my slang for a commercial airliner) I have flown in and taxied right up to my awaiting family, who were very much relieved I was back in one piece.
Honestly, and I know this is a little long, but with all the worries and stress in life (I am the father of a 16 year old daughter who just started driving), for a few precious moments, soaring above the earth, I forgot all those worries and experienced true joy.
THANK YOU ALL for such a wonderful time! Take Care and hope to see you again soon.

“Air Combat/ Dog fight is the most fun I've ever had!”

Just this past weekend, myself and three friends were fortunate enough to get to go up and have aerial dog fights- just like what you see on Top Gun. We flew over the San Diego/Carlsbad coast in Varga VG-21s. Brandon and Chuck were great pilots and instructors and allow a lot of room for you to "play" and "dogfight". We all had an awesome, unique one-of-a-kind experience. For me, I think it was the most fun thing I've ever done! I would highly reccomend anyone who can to do this. Make sure you dope up on the Dramamine in advance if you get motion sickness though. Two in our party got a little groggy- but that's what happens when you only take half of the reccomended dose! We rate this experience Five Stars and Two Thumbs Up!!!!
