I took my girlfriend here for her birthday recently and we had a relaxing, laid-back time: the mineral pool was extremely calming, the service was great (the two women who run the place are very attentive), and the coffee cake they give you when you get there is delicious.
They've also got a very friendly pootch there, and the small, cozy atmostphere (7 rooms) really lended to a nice, communial feeling. It's easy to schmooze with other guests by the pool, but if you want to be left alone, no one will bother you.
So if you enjoy sitting in a hot springs pool, petting a cute dog and reading a book, you'll be in for a good time. We had so much fun, that we stayed an extra day.
Also, it's pretty affordable, especially because you feel like you're getting good service for the price. Sure, there's no cleaning staff (though you can pay for one if you want it), but that's not a big deal.
Suggestions if you are going: If you feel like doing something nice for your significant other, I would suggest asking them to get you some champagne and local toffee (so tasty!).
Buy some meat for the grill, because you'll probably want to stay in and relax.
The local casino is pretty lame (Caliente something or other), so it might be worth going out a few minutes more to find something nicer. I hear Morongo is better.
It's a little over an hour to get to Joshua Tree (the entrance is only about 40 minutes away, but you need to drive another 20 minutes to get to a nice place to hike), so plan accordingly.
The only problem I could think of is that my internet was a little wonky; but that's because I think we were too far away from the router. The wireless worked when we left our room.
