I won this motel as a 1* Priceline hotel for about $60, including fees. The location is OK, but the room had problems: missing baseboard molding, no clock radio, a broken toilet paper holder, the bathroom mirror was hung from the towel rack, several cigarette burn holes in my blanket and there was an overall musty smell pervading the room, like they were trying to cover up mold. It's seemed as though they started to renovate my room and quit 75% of the way through. Plus, I never got a receipt for anything I paid for like parking ($5) or local phone calls. The complimentary breakfast was your basic coffee and danish, which is a nice touch considering how cheap the rooms are. The staff was OK, too but I would not want to stay here again and I'm not that picky. It's budget (low budget?) with a capital "B".

“Avoid like the plague!!!”

Econo Lodge & Suites

Aug 22, 2006

This was, without a doubt, one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed in. When I first arrived, they gave me a room on the first floor that smelled so strongly of pine-sol and bug spray that my eyes watered. I began to understand why when I saw roaches outside that were so big you could have strapped on a saddle and rode them. I asked to be moved up to the second floor. It was a little bit better, but not much. I wore socks when I walked around so my feet wouldn't get dirty, and I wore flip-flops in the shower. I felt like I was in college again! They weren't strict on the rules since there was a hispanic family that stayed in the King room next to me with 8 people in it! No joke! The management and the price were fine. That was about the only thing going for this hotel! I'd recommend spending a little bit more money and getting something more decent. It's definitely worth it.

“Worst hotel I've ever been in!”

Econo Lodge & Suites

Shaker Heights, Ohio

We prepaid our room a month in advance, but when we arrived at 1:50 AM (late because of an Amtrak mess up), we were told our room was gone. I argued that a 3-night prepaid reservation could not be sold away and the clerk relented saying he had 1 room left, but it was with 1 bed, not the 2-bed I had paid for. We were desperate and took it. The carpeting was wet from a leaking bathroom sink; there was no bathtub; the shower had black mold on the ceiling and floor; we requested a wakeup call, but none came. When we went to the lobby the next day to ask for a room change and ask why no wakeup call, the clerk said their electronic system was not working; continental breakfast consisted of coffee and cinnamon rolls only. We will never stay at an Econo Lodge after this experience. This hotel was totally unworthy of the average night rate of $100. You can get a good hotel room in Ohio for $100 a nite, but obviously not in California!

I wasn't expecting much, but the room was reasonably clean and the water pressure in the shower was very high. The room had a musty smell, but a little AirWick fixed that problem. It does get loud at times, but I got this room for $40/night from Priceline plus $5/night for parking. It is a pretty convenient location and right for the price. I wanted clean, I got clean.

“At Least the Price was Right”

I got this place for a $50 Priceline bid which means about $60 a night. Normal price is about $90 a night. Hollywood is sleazy so the location is not the best although you can walk to a variety of restaurants and it's just down the road from $200 a night hotels. It's definitely a one star place but it's adequate. The shower is old fashioned and nice. The heaters don't work in any of the rooms so when you complain they will give you a small electric heater to use. The place needs a good manager - the bedside lights didn't work - one was unplugged and the other missing a bulb. There was an unused drug syringe in the room safe. When you plug in both bedside lamps you can't plug in the clock by the bed. The place is reasonably clean, the staff friendly and we didn't get charged for either parking, hi speed wireless internet or in-room safe. There is a frig in the room with king size bed. Parking is good with good night lighting. Lots of traffic noise from Sunset Blvd.
