I stayed at the Mid-Wilshire Plaza while I attended E3 this year. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the room. It was clean and well kept. Things changed the next day when the air conditioner stopped working and the toilet stopped up. The showers seemed to be made for people under 5 feet tall so be prepared to do some yoga to wash your hair.
The continental breakfast was fine. They offered cereal, toast, donuts, juice and coffee. I didn't expect more. The staff was very accommodating and so were the local "professionals" who seemed to be occupying the rooms around us. It was just funny, I didn't feel in danger. They do provide parking spaces with an on-site security guard.
The area might initially scare someone used the backwoods of TN but anyone who is used to city life will find the Korea Town area safe and mostly enjoyable. Denny's and Ihop are a short drive away as are several local Korean restaurants.
All in all, it was a comfortable hotel but nothing fancy.
