“Hidden Gem in Palm Springs”

Desert Hills Hotel

Jul 19, 2008

We spent a lot of time reading the tripadvisor reviews of places in Palm Springs before deciding on Desert Hills and are so glad we chose this small hotel. It's adults only because the layout is all ground floor rooms/suites set around the pool and jacuzzi area. We chose a regular King room and it was like a mini suite, with separate lounge area, good sized shower room and full kitchen, and a wonderfully comfortable bed. Those staying when we were there were mostly repeat guests, and understandably so as the place is so friendly and provides accommodation of a high standard. If you decide to use their outdoor barbecues, there is a full cupboard of condiments and marinades for everyone to use, in the little breakfast room, which, had we known about, would have made use of the bbq. Their location is quietly tucked away down a residential road under the mountain, but only 5 minutes to Palm Canyon where all the shops and restaurants are. Highly recommended.

“a little gem”

Desert Hills Hotel

What a great hotel! Excellent value for money and a super location. The room we had was very spacious, clean and really well furnished. Molton Brown bathroom supplies was a nice touch. The kitchenette was well equiped. Alot of the larger more expensive hotels could learn a lesson from staying here.

My only regret is that we only stayed for one night. The pool is beautiful and I noticed a couple of gas BBQ on site which would have been great to use.

There was a lovely athmosphere around the pool and Jim the owner was so friendly and efficient. I got the feeling that everybody there were return guests and I could see why.

The area where the hotel is would be quiet, yet the main street iw only a few minutes walk away. There's a lovely restaurant about 5 minutes walk from the hotel on the corner called Kaiser with great food and lovely waiting staff.

My wife and I stayed at Desert Hills for four nights in a one bedroom suite. We have stayed in the Palm Spings "area" several times in the past, but have stayed in the larger resort hotels. This time we decided that we wanted to go back in time a bit and stay in one of the long standing hotels right in town. We were so happy we did and will propably not stay at a larger resort agian. Desert Hills is well very well maintained and it a nice peaceful place to call home for several days or weeks if you have that kind of time. Jim the manager is very friendly and helpful as well. We had a seperate bedroom with a very nice king bed, living and dining room and kitchen. The suite is also airconditioned. It was a short 5 minute walk to town, which allowed us to really enjoy Palm Sprins itself for the first time. All the guests at the hotel were very friendly and time spent around the pool and spa was fun and relaxing. I would say this is a great spot for adults and couples. We would stay here agian and recommend you give it a try.

We stayed for a week in the incredibly nice two bedroom deluxe suite at the Desert Hills Hotel. The solitary downside of the visit was the realization that our stay would be entirely too short; we could easily have remained blissfully content for many weeks with the hotel’s ambience, location and friendly staff. The “mid-century modern” style of the hotel is just the right size – small, but not too small – with a low, single-storey architecture that is conducive to looking up at the nearby mountains and the neighborhoods’ many palm trees. The rooms have been nicely updated with coordinated colors and furnishings that both look good and feel good (especially the Kashwere robes). The hotel’s location, less than a block from the mountains, is one of the best in Palm Springs. The city’s down town area with dozens of good restaurants is within easy strolling distance. You can even walk to the movie theater. But despite being close to Palm Springs’ nightlife, the hotel’s neighborhood remains soothingly quiet. Eating breakfast outside in the morning while gazing up at the nearby mountains and watching them change color with the sunrise is nothing short of sublime. Jim Baker, the manager, does a great job of anticipating guests’ needs and providing helpful advice with warmth and friendliness. Our time in Palm Springs was spent hiking on day trips out to Joshua Tree National Park, and the palm canyons of the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation south of the city. After days spent out exploring the desert, it was even more of a pleasure to spend cool evenings in the hotel's pool and hot tub. Desert Hills was the perfect home base for exploring the larger Palm Springs area.

Great and convenient hotel with clean rooms, beautiful pool and gardens and easily accessible (walking distance) to downtown palm springs and nearby golf courses. A true bargain. We will be coming back for more.
