“Good food, though not cheap”

Nice atmosphere. I had the ribs (no complaints about the size of the portion for the cost, nor the taste) and my wife had grilled trout. Both very good. Nice selection of microbrewery beers. It was a pretty quiet weekday evening in mid-October. Only drawback was the party next to us-- I got the impression it was the restaurant owner or manager with some out ot town guests, and he seemed to go a bit overboard in trying to impress them (I was probably oversensitive; they were not all THAT loud). Most of the other restaurants in the historic area we looked at were of a similar price range (a bit high).

This place is conveniently located next to the train station. In addition to the rather expensive restaurant, they have an adjoining place, the Quiet Lady Tavern where we ate. The food is generally OK with quite a mixed array of food choices. I decided to order the full rack of ribs. As anyone in the food industry knows, a rack of ribs is 13 ribs. There's was 8. I questioned this and was told that this is the "industry standard". I've been in the BBQ for a lot of years, and that just isn't the case. They did not offer any solution and so I just accepted my fate. At $18 for 8 bones, that's $27 for a real full rack. The priciest ribs I've ever encountered. And they were really a sad excuse for BBQ. My dinner companion had a nice meal and the appetizers were fine.

I will also comment that the service was quite spotty. Compounding this problem was the fact that our waitress had a table or two in virtually every part of the restaurant including the patio. Management error?

Even though we go to Durango several times a year, we're not likely to return to this place.

While the rest of our party went skiing we went shopping. For lunch we dediced to try the Palace because a couple walking next to us heard us discussing where to go and they said go to the "Palace". The food was really good and fresh. I had the lunch special of penne pasta. The price was only $6.00 for a nice size bowl of this with a roll. My friend had a sandwich with fries. We shared a piece of key lime pie that was fabulous. I would really recommend this place.

“Nice meal on secluded patio”

My family of 4 ate here for lunch on August 13. The restaurant sits next to the Train Station. I thought this might be simply an overpriced so so restaurant trying to get hungry train riders coming off the Durango to Silvertan Train each day. I was wrong. First the atmosphere was very nice. The restaurant had many antiques, even in the restroom and also a secluded patio with an okay view of the train station and a parking lot. There were trees and birds around the patio blocking some of the view of both.

Second, the food was excellent. I had a special sandwich on sourdough bread and my husband had a philly beefsteak. His was okay but mine was excellent. We both choice salad over french fries and were not disappointed since it was a large serving of mixed greens.

I almost chose a special which was a nice size piece of salmon with a mixed green salad. It was a regular menu item on special for only $7 instead of the regular price of $10 or $11. I saw it at the next table and it looked very good.

My son had a 1/2 lb hamburger which looked great. He is 12 years and ate it all. My daughter had one of the kids meals, of which there were about 10 different items. She received french fries and apple sauce with her meal for $5 or so.

We had a nice meal with good service and would go back again. I was pleasantly surprised that this restaurant was so good.
