“My favorite hotel, ever!”

Just returned from 3 nights at the Rochester. If you visit Durango, you would be crazy not to stay here. Yes, I have stayed at more "4-star" places, e.g., the Cavalieri Hilton in Rome, but I have never stayed at a hotel I liked better. The rooms are large and spotless, decorated beautifully, with a comfortable bed. The hotel is located a block off Main Street, making for some quietness, but you can walk everywhere. The staff are friendly and great in every way. No doorman grabbing for your bags, but I am confident that there would have been help had I asked for it. Breakfast was delicious. Cookies and hot tea in the afternoon. Across the street is the Leland House, under same ownership/mgmt, where each room has a little kitchenette if that suits you more. I hope to return to Durango and stay at The Rochester for at least a week.

Based on reviews here on TripAdvisor, we stayed at the Rochester Hotel during a quick trip to Durango last weekend. Don't be fooled by the outside which doesn't look particularly impressive....It's an old rooming house... The place is just right! Our accommodations were upgraded to a suite free of charge and we found every aspect of our stay to be enjoyable. Decor was intentionally funky..."period piece" cowboy and cowboy star art...Large jacuzzi bath tub was a nice surprise. The king size bed was comfortable. Lots of little things delighted us. The home made cookies (at least I think they were), put out in the afternoon were warm and delicious. Breakfast was excellent...I kept going back for more miniature scones! The friendly person at the front desk (which is actually across the street at the B & B) recommended "Ken and Sue's" for dinner and made reservations for us. That restaurant was so good, I returned there for lunch the next day while my husband was in a business meeting! Don't miss this restaurant and get reservations, it's that good, and surprisingly reasonable.

For the price, the Rochester Hotel is an excellent value in a perfect location for waundering around downtown. The only negative and it really didn't bother us that much was that we could hear footsteps from the room upstairs. We would definitely stay here again if in Durango!

We really enjoyed the Rochester Hotel. It's a very clean and well decorated property. Breakfast is very good and presented very nicely, and rooms are all decorated differently with a lot of charm and good taste. The location, a block away from main street, is great, with many fine restaurants within walking distance. The lovely garden is nice in the summer, private parking is a plus, and the staff is efficient and cordial. We hope to stay there again!

“Loved this Place!”

After 5 nights "roughing it" in pretty bad motels, this place was fabulous! The room was huge, with 2 big beds, a fainting sofa, and other antique furniture. The bathroom was big and modernized. The "hotel" (really an old fashioned inn) is right near the main strip of stores and restaurants, but back one block so very quiet. A lovely common area has cookies and tea in the afternoon, and a great (hot) breakfast in the morning. Absolutely no complaints about anything - I'd stay there again in a minute.
