We stayed at the Renaissance Boca Raton for several days in April to attend a friend's wedding nearby. We were able to find an impressive rate online using a travel website, and as such we looked forward to the stay in weather that was too hot for an outdoor wedding (but that's nothing I'd blame on this hotel, of course).
The hotel employees were above average and friendly. The room was on par with good, upscale hotel room (it seemed recently renovated). The beds were comfortable and offered a number of pillows for whatever a guest would require. I was not impressed by the pool area for a hotel in this region, but the hotel itself is situated in a business area and seems to be aimed at the business set. The on-site restaurant, Umbria, was average for lunch. I noticed the location was very convenient to large Town Center at Boca Raton mall, Florida Atlantic University (FAU), as well as freeway access.
My main gripe was cell phone service: I could not get any T-Mobile coverage from my room or inside the hotel. I know this wasn't just my phone because I saw patrons in the restaurant (strangers) also have to go outside to get a signal. My partner did not have this problem with her Verizon service, so I guess its a T-Mobile thing.
I would recommend this hotel if you can get a good deal on it online; otherwise I assume you can find better hotels at the "retail" premium prices.
