We booked this hotel because we were with a group of people for a kids sporting event and the price was right and it was a recommended hotel. I read the online reviews and it seemed ok. WRONG! I would highly recommended STAYING ELSEWHERE. First of all, the hotel is in a terrible location. It is right next to the Clearwater/St. Pete airport, and when planes are landing or taking off it sounds like the whole place is going to blast apart. That's not the worst thing though. The rooms themselves are clean, but VERY, VERY small and crowded. I asked for a roll-away cot. They put one in my room, but there was no way that it could be opened without blocking every inch of walking space. A real safety issue. This hotel has outside walkways, and it did not feel safe at night for kids to walk around once it was dark. The entire property is dark and not well lit. The walkways and stairways are cracking and railings are loose. The room where the "breakfast" is located is not much bigger than one of the hotel rooms. It was so crowded, with tables very close to where the people were trying to get the food. Selection of breakfast items was much less than what you get at a Hampton Inn or comparable place, with a dirty, small, cramped area to eat. Not worth the trouble, so we ended up going out to breakfast two out of three mornings once we saw what it was like. The one poor person trying to keep the area clean and restocked could not keep up with it, so it was a real mess.
The night before I left, I tried to schedule a shuttle to the Tampa airport. The hotel claims they have free shuttle service to the airports, but what they don't tell you is it is only available at limited times. They first accomodate any people traveling on Jet Blue, and work around their arrival and departure times. I could have taken the free shuttle, but would have had to go to the airport several hours early, or leave the hotel with less than an hour before my flight, and the airport is about 20 minutes away without traffic. The other option I was given was to take a taxi for the cost of $22.00. So what was I gaining by staying at this hotel? NOTHING! The biggest problem I had was the fact that this hotel tried to double charge me for the room. A friend had originally book the room for me, holding it with their credit card. When I arrived, I gave my credit card for payment. Three days after arriving home, I found out that my friends credit card had been charged, as well as mine for the stay. I contacted Best Western, who contacted this hotel. The hotel management told Best Western that I had 6 people staying in my room, which was not true. We had 3 people: myself and my two kids. The most I got was "well, the charge was taken off of your friend's card". I would strongly advise against this hotel If you want to stay in this area, there are many other nicer looking hotels right next door and across the street, which looked much better.
