“Disappointed”

The Paradise Inn

1 of 5 stars
Florida Keys
Jun 2, 2008

My husband and I were to stay at the Paradise Inn beginning on Friday, May 30, and leaving Sunday, June 1. With our confirmation number in hand (guaranteeing late arrival), we drove two and a half hours, after working a twelve-hour day, only to be told that they didn't have our room and it wouldn't be available until Saturday. What??? Are You Kidding Me???

We are actually repeat visitors to the Paradise Inn, we even spent our wedding weekend there. But this time around was quite different, and we were treated by the night manager so badly that we were actually stunned by the whole experience.

They did offer to give us twenty dollars off our stay the next night, but we had a baby in tow, where did they want us to stay? Oh, they wanted us to check in at their sister hotel on a VERY busy street. Oh, and they would give us twenty dollars off that room as well.

We all know the importance of a holiday away from home...the relaxation that we all need. After thinking about the busy street they wanted us to stay on, the lack of sleep, the unrestful day we would have the next day due to packing and unpacking again, and the three hours that we would be without a hotel room in between check-out and check-in, we chose to get back in our car and drive the two and a half hours home. Our arrival back home was 1:30 a.m. What would a guest do if they had flown in from somewhere, or perhaps had driven further? If you question why we didn't just find another hotel, believe me, we tried. There was an event in town and everybody was booked solid.

Now we find that we are not the only ones who have been treated this way by the Paradise Inn.

We cannot recommend this place ever again. What was once our Paradise away from home has now been spoiled by a rude, uncaring and incompetent staff.

“Pleasant Facility, Rude Staff at Desk”

Just got back from a weekend stay at Paradise Inn. The Inn itself has decent rooms. Basic continental breakfast was included ... bread, fruit, coffee, juice. Most of the staff at the Inn were friendly and helpful, with the notable exception of the guy working the desk during the day. From the moment our group arrived (we booked 5 rooms), he was rude and sarcastic every time we saw him. When we went to check-out, he had a fit when we asked to pay by the room rather than a single bill for all 5 rooms. He absolutely ranted and raved, it was amazing! I've been to Key West several times before, and will stay somewhere else next time.

This is a classic case of the importance of customer service. An otherwise outstanding stay was marred by the attitude of the day desk clerk. He was snide, rude, sarcastic, and unhelpful. An otherwise delightful stay was ruined by his poor and, yes, hostile, treatment of the guests.

The inn itself was fabulous - clean, quiet, beautiful intimate pool, great location. All of the staff was wonderful except for the one guy working the day shift.

What a shame that the inn does not represent itself better. Certainly the inn could make better employment choices.

“Wonderful place to call home in Key West”

We spent 6 nights at the Paradise Inn and loved it. Only one block off of Duval street, it is centrally located and you can leave your car and walk almost anywhere you'd want to go. Our room was lovely...we had one of the full suites. The living room had hardwood floors, a full size sofa plus a couple of comfortable chairs. There is a mini bar with a microwave and fridge, they even give you popcorn to pop! The bathroom included a sink, plus another one right outside, which makes it easier to get around in the morning. The bed was REALLY comfortable. We were right above the lovely pool area but were never bothered by noise, even thought the inn was fully booked. They serve breakfast each morning in the lobby, which features 3-4 tables for 2. In the late afternoon they put out wine and cheese. Breakfast was plentiful: juice, tea, coffee, milk, yogurt, waffles and bread to toast, pastries, sweet breads, hard boiled eggs, several types of cereal, fresh fruit (apple, orange, banana). A couple of days we wanted a more traditional breakfast and we highly recommend the 4 block walk to Blue Heaven, which is both delicious and fun. You can't go wrong with the Paradise Inn.

“Not bad but somewhat overpriced”

The Paradise Inn

May 7, 2008

Paradise Inn is centrally located in old town on Simonton Street, one street after and parallel to Duval Street. You can easily leave your car at the inn (plenty of parking) and walk or cab anywhere in Key West.

We've stayed several times at Paradise Inn but never by choice, the last time finding ourselves in Key West at the last minute during a busy weekend and the other properties we preferred being full.

It's not that Paradise Inn is a bad place, the rooms are clean and the inn has a great location, it's just that much better value can be had elsewhere. We paid $300+ for a room with two queens (#104) and at those prices we could have stayed at The Island City House, The Gardens Hotel or several other properties that are superior to Paradise Inn; that is, if they were available. I suspect it's no accident that other properties at this price range fill up first leaving Paradise Inn with rooms available. Again, the place isn't bad but I can't really think of anything to commend it. It's not charmless but perhaps a touch sterile?

The Inn has a small pool area and serves a run-of-the-mill continental breakfast, which we skipped.

If you have to stay here, you'll be fine. It wouldn't be my first choice though.

    • Liked — Centrally located and had rooms when other hotels in the same price range were sold out.
    • Disliked — Expensive for what it is, somewhat lacking in personality, Wi-FI internet signal only strong in one part of the inn.
