I wrote a review of this hotel on the website that I booked it on and it was not published . They apparently don't show any travelers opinions of this hotel for a reason.

Our family has traveled extensively and we can't believe this hotel is a marriot. It is the worst marriot that we have ever stayed at . It does have a nice center courtyard but that is it. It looks like it has been an old apartment building that has been converted but not updated. It's location is across town from the tourist area so it is cheaper but you get what you pay for. The furniture looks like as if it is at least twenty -five years old including the stains. Also, we could hear traffic all night outside the paper thin door.

If we were to visit key west again with our 8 and 10 year old we would definetly stay in a hotel closer to downtown as crazy as that sounds or go to another key. There are other hotels for the same money that would have been much better.

Please don't assume the other Marroiotts in the keys are bad because they were very nice.I think it is just this one...

This was not your average Marriott Courtyard property. Yes, it was clean and comfortable, but while most Courtyards cater to the business traveler, this one clearly appears to serve the vacationer.

First, the property was more scenic than I expected It is located on a waterfront, with a small beach. In all fairness, the waterfront looks more like a pond than the ocean, but it is still scenic none the less. There is also a nice sized pool that we did not swim in, but many patrons seemed to enjoy.

Our room was clean and comfortable. It overlooked the water. The only negative is that I did not see an elevator in the building that we stayed. Thus, if one has trouble with stairs, they may want to note this prior to their stay so the front desk can accomodate you for a room with an elevator.

The big negative to this property is the location. It is not walking distance from Old Town. The hotel, does, however, provide a free complimentary hourly shuttle serivce to and from the hotel. If you don't mind being confined to its schedule, it will save you a lot of money in cabs! On the positive side of the location, there was no fee for parking, and it was not a problem.

I agree that the property seemed like a lot of money. I don't think, however, that the property is overvalued relative to the rest of the island. Key West is just not a inexpesive vacation.

Pluses:
Friendly staff. Clean room and bathroom. Plentiful linens. Comfortable bed. Attractive lobby with restaurant for breakfast (not included in the room rate). Nice pool and hot tub. Beach access. Long waterfront decking with many chairs for lounging. Two computers available for public internet access (most places seem to have only one). Free hourly shuttle to and from downtown Key West all day and until 11:20 at night. Helpful concierge in lobby.

Minuses:
Pricey. Bathroom needs work. The cheap plastic shower curtain was torn in several place where the grommets that hold the hooks were pulling out. The knob that adjusted the water flow from tub to shower was difficult to work and needed much manipulation and the hot water ran out in the middle of a shampoo leaving me to rinse in cold water! The desk clerk said he would check on the reason and call back but never did. For $270 per night (plus $30 tax) they should have been able to repair all this. No refrigerator in the room although there was a space for one in the TV console. No brochure rack for local attractions so you must deal with the concierge which can take time if s/he is busy with someone else.

I am writing this review during my last day at The Courtyard after staying here for seven days. We believe that The Courtyard offers a large number of amenities that will satisfy most travelers.

This property IS off the tourista sites located on Mallory Square but we find that to be a damned good benefit. We do not enjoy the large crowds down on Duval Street who have that "grab a t-shit & pound down five drinks before we need to get back onto our cruise ship" attitude.

Their shuttle van runs to downtown Old Town Key West every hour, on the hour. It picks up guests at the same drop off location at 20 minutes after the hour. You save beaucoup bucks using their shuttle instead of taxis.

The pool is large & quite secluded between the hotel rooms & tons on fauna they have planted. This location helps keep the road noise to a minimum. The pool has an eight foot deep end for swimming.

The tiki bar is located at one end of the pool, near the very large hot tub spa. Last night there were seven people plus my wife & myself in the spa... able room for all.

The three consierge people possess a great deal of information about KW attractions & restaurants. They offer options & secure your reservations for you.

The front desk & support staff run a tight, efficient & clean operation so you feel properly treated at this Courtyard.

There is a deck in the back of the property that overlooks their small sandy beach. We've seen crabs, sting rays, brown pelicans & a great blue heron while enjoying adult beverages on the deck.

Finally, all of the first floor rooms & the reception/office/meeting areas have been refurbished because of the damage that the island sustained rom hurrican Wilma in 2005. The new rugs, chairs & paint give the place a "new" feel.
