Well. Imagin a BIG hotel , lots of rooms, and furniture from 1960. This is the Deauville.
They have a BIG ( of course ) pool, everything in the hotel is BIG, but not the bathroom!! 3 elevators from 1960 ( but they are fast) hehe, . The room is ok, You will find a TV from 1980, empty refrigerator ( nice ), large closet , coffee machine , and that's it.
If you are driving, you can park your car in front of the hotel at night ( without quarters), because they have the worst valet parking service in Miami.
The service is not the best thing at this hotel, but is a 2/2.5 star hotel , so is good to sleep . the location is Perfect. Walgreens, pizza hut in front of the hotel .
I will stay there again if I find a special rate less than 80 dollars.

“Don't bring your car !!!!!!!!!!!”

Deauville Beach Resort

Arrived at 2.30pm and was told that the valet parking was full but could park in one of the side streets on a meter. Drove around for 15 minutes trying to find a parking space and did find a public car park that cost 50 cent a hour. i was lucky getting that space as someone was just leaving. Got back to the hotel after a 10 minute walk and ask the valet parking when there would be parking availability and was told to ask later.
Now for check-in !!!!!!! Joined the queue of about 15 people in front of me and waited and waited and after 35 minutes i get to check in desk and guess what they didn't have the my reservation. The girl was nice enough but did take another 15 minutes to sort it out. While we were waiting a group of teenagers were running around the lobby shouting and throwing a ball to each other no one asking them to stop and in the other corner was a very drunk man that was wolf whistling and shouting abuse at any women who came within 20 feet , again one one ask him to stop.
Getting to room a was pleasantly surprised that the room was great and had a wonderful view , shame the glass needed cleaning. It was clean large nicely decorated with a good sized bed and did have a fridge but , and a big BUT, - no safe . Having over $2000 , a camcorder, PSP, camera, and 2 mobile phones I was bit worried about leaving it all in the room after seeing the kind of customers that where staying in the hotel.
Later the evening I asked again about valet parking was told to try again in the morning about 8am.
In the morning i get up at 8 and ask about valet parking and told to try 9, tried at 9 told to try again to try 10. I was getting really annoyed at this point. Went back at 10 and told to come back at 1pm at this point i give up and just walk back to the car the to feed the metre. I only picked this hotel because of the valet parking. I know that parking can be difficult in Miami but would have been better off staying in south beach and parking in one of the many city run car parks.
Public transport is very good and only cost $1.50 and runs every 5-10 mins. A taxis is about $15 which is good value.
This was once a grand hotel which has now lost some of its charm and a bit lack luster. With a bit of loving care and big improvement in customer service it might be worth staying there.
They also need to sort out the parking as it almost ruined my weekend was I worried that I was going to get a ticket or being towed. Getting up every day at 7.30am to feed a metre is not my idea of a good time.

“Even If it's your last resort - Don't make it this resort!”

Deauville Beach Resort

1 of 5 stars
Chicago, IL
Mar 16, 2008

Don't judge this hotel by what you see on their website.
Photoshop does wonders. After almost an hour long wait to check-in, I was ready to check-out after seeing the room. Here I am in Miami and the rooms are painted dark grey. There is one working light and not one piece of artwork on the walls. The term prison cell came to mind. The furniture and linens were old and stained, the bathroom was not as clean as it should have been and the hair dryer was broken. Luckily, I brought my beach shoes which I wore, since I didn't trust what was in the carpet (another colleague staying at this hotel found sewing needles in his carpet).
Enough about the rooms and more about the customer service.
It was completely non-existant. I realized that it wasn't worth complaining, because it got me nowhere. I'm not even sure that the staff understood English.
Moving on to the food. I did try and order a hamburger at the tikki bar. After an hour, the hamburger came, but the ketchup didn't .
When I asked for ketchup, I was told to look around on other tables. When I reported back that there was no ketchup, I was told that someone would be notified. An hour later, a ketchup bottle was brought. It was placed behind the bar. I was told that I had to wait until the bartender returned from break before I could get my ketchup. Luckily, a non law-abiding hotel guest snuck into the bar and quickly grabbed the bottle for me.
The first thing the cab driver asked me as we were leaving the hotel to go to the airport was "how was your stay at this hotel?"
I told her it was awful and I was happy to be leaving to go back to the frigid Chicago winter. she told me that everyone says the same thing, and that she has never had a customer who has anything positive to say about this hotel. It is under new management, but it doesn't seem that this management cares about its guests.

“Redesigned room?”

Deauville Beach Resort

Stayed in an updated room. No towel racks, minimal drawers, bathroom mirror on side wall - not over sink. Not on my list to return.

“Not bad”

Deauville Beach Resort

Mar 13, 2008

I stayed in the Deauville partly for a business conference and partly for pleasure. Reading other reviews beforehand, I was a bit nervous about staying here, but was pleasantly surprised. I will admit the hotel web site is misleading-- it gives the impression of a very modern, updated hotel and the Deauville isn't-- but this isn't necessarily a bad thing. During my stay, I took the Deauville for what it is-- an older, art deco-styled hotel whose ballroom served as a venue for the Beatles' Ed Sullivan telecast in the 60s and whose rooms housed a number of other celebrities and musicians in its heyday.

The rooms were fairly average (room area itself was nice but could've used a fresh coat of paint, bathroom was outdated), but the view from our oceanview room was quite lovely and we enjoyed the pool area and direct beach access. I definitely recommend either renting a car or setting aside a good amount of money for cabs (we went with the former option) since most shopping and restaurants are further south and not within walking distance. An earlier review states that there is absolutely nothing in the area of the Deauville except "a Cuban deli", but I just want to set the record straight that this isn't correct. If you're in need of something right within walking distance, there is a Walgreen's right across the street for necessities, along with a Dunkin Donuts and an American-style pub with decent burgers. Right up the street is a terrific international cafe with great sandwiches and cappuccinos. Again, definitely rent a car to get to better places, but you're not totally stranded at the Deauville if you need something quickly.

I had nothing but positive experiences with the staff-- I was able to check in quickly and easily at 1pm even though check-in isn't until 3, front desk staffers were very helpful directing me to conference events and local restaurants, and the valets were nothing but courteous and friendly.

My biggest complaint was the wireless internet access; if my stay was strictly for pleasure this wouldn't have been such a big deal, but since I was required for half the trip to stay in contact with my office, the painfully slow internet connection was a big problem. The Deauville's conference services were great, and if plan on continuing to host business conventions here, I suggest investing in more stable ethernet connections for the guest rooms.
