The Hibiscus Suites are ok but not nearly as nice as the hotel’s website would have you believe when they say “the finest all suite lodging near Crescent Beach”. The accommodations are larger than a standard hotel room, having a kitchenette and small living room and the furnishings are nice but the renovation work was very sloppy and does not hide the age of the property. Just painting over peeling plaster and woodwork doesn’t quite fix it. The advertised “feather top mattress” can’t hide the lumpy, ancient bedding underneath and the well worn sheets that pop off every time you turn over in bed. There are large cracks and gaps around the air conditioner and front door. I didn’t measure it, the hotel’s claim that they are 4 blocks from the beach may be true, but it seems quite a bit longer. The hotel’s location is good if you want to be close to the Tamiami Trail but not a good pick for being close to the beach.
I travel to Sarasota frequently and have stayed at many different accommodations both on Siesta Key and in Sarasota. If it’s wintertime and the beach is not your main objective Hibiscus Suites is a comfortable and convenient choice and with the larger suites you get more for your money when compared with the nearby Holiday Inn but don’t expect “the finest all suite lodging near Crescent Beach”.
