Ardmore House Bed & Breakfast

We enjoyed our stay at Ardmore house in June. The young man working there was pleasant and helpful. I liked having access to the kitchen at my leisure. The inn is very clean and nicely decorated, with lovely public rooms on the first floor. We stayed in the Queen room which was a bit small, but adequate. Our daughter stayed in the Prince room. The biggest drawback is that the bathrooms have to be shared with other guests. There are 3 rooms and only two bathrooms. Also, there was no air conditioning in the prince room, and the a/c unit in the queen room was large and noisy. This is not a deluxe B&B, but it was relatively inexpensive and all in all, you get what you pay for.

I read the other review where the person didn't get the email about the lock box and that is unfortunate. I got the confirmation email and instructions and everything worked out beautifully for me. I found on street parking the entire time. I was delighted at the interior of the house which was beautifully decorated and very clean. I stayed in the Queen room, which was very comfortable. Great location to the train too. Good cable selection for those of us who like tv late night. I was never bothered by anyone and it was peaceful, quiet and a great rate. I will definitely return. Other places in Chicago are just too pricey for what you get.

I booked this B & B through their website, which asks for two telephone numbers and states they will telephone you to confirm on-line reservation. I received no phone calls, so I called the number on the website, which has a very long recording and refers you back to the website. I arrived at 3:30 p.m. on Friday March 7 to discover no one was there. I telephoned again and left my cell phone number. I waited for over an hour and a half, and no one arrived, and no phone call. I returned at 6:00 p.m., and still no one was there. It was cold and light snow, so I had no choice but to book another hotel. at 10:30 p.m., I received a phone call from the manager "Craig" who said he had been out of town for a few days. He said he was sorry I could not get in, as there was a lock box, and I should have received the combination. I told him I received no communication from them at all. He suggested I contact the owner. I suggested that HE call the owner. The next day I got a voice mail, and called the owner. He insisted that he had sent me an email with the combination to the lock box. I told him I had received no email from him. He said he would mail me a check for the amount charged on my credit card. When I returned home he sent me an email which purported to have a copy of the alleged email I never received. He then changed the conditions of my refund on my replying to the latest email, clearly so he could claim it was a receipt for the earlier email he never sent. He never mailed the check. I have disputed the charge with my credit card, but assume this disreputable individual will challenge it. I would never do business with this place again! If you are looking for a B & B so as to get local recommendations from staff, you are unlikely to get it Ardmore, since no one is there, and they don't return phone calls!

I have stayed here twice and all I can say is that there probably isn't a better place to stay in Chicago. All the rooms in the house a just beautiful. I felt like I was staying at a friend or relative's home. The air conditioning was so comfortable on the hottest days, I was not "frozen out" as so often happens in hotels. If you visit their website at ardmorehousebb, the photos you will see are completely accurate as to how all the rooms look. The Chicago Elevated is only a few blocks away as is Lake Shore Drive. It was a nice clientel who stayed there too. I also felt that it was a great deal for the money. I could go on and on praising it. I will be staying there again later this year on 2 more occasions.
