Well we just came home from a "girls" weekend. We had a great time in Chicago. First let me say I also booked the hotel on priceline, but, I paid $77 plus tax. After reading some of the other prices paid I feel I should have gotten a lower price through priceline (I started my bid quite lower, but, I guess that is a priceline issue not a hotel issue.) Now, back to the hotel. This was also my first trip to Chicago so I was a little ify when I was told to take the train at night, turn out though it was quite a nice ride. For anyone else reading this review you take the blue line to the Clark/Lake stop (about 40 minute ride fare is $1.75) and than a taxi to the hotel about another 5 minutes. Ok, so when we arrived at the hotel it was big as all the reviews said, but, we did not encounter any lines at the check in stand. The ladies that checked us in were very pleasant. After reading reviews on this site I requested a Delux room in the west tower. At first they said this is an additional $15 per night charge, but we asked if there was anything they could do to wave the fee the lady was more than accomadating. So, kudo's to them (I am sorry I cant remember her name). As many of the other reviews have said, the lobby can be a noisy place with the Big Bar and the dance floor (I think it is called Harddrive or something along those line) but, from our room on the 25th floor you would have never known those places existed. Our room was quite nice, this was also a consern of mine after reading some of the reviews. The room temperature was very comfortable, if for some reason we needed to change the temp there was a thermostat on the wall. The beds were great not your typical hard hotel bed, my friend even said she wasnt used to such a soft bed. Each bed had 4 pillows, a down comforter, and a light blanket if we opted for that. Another review said it was hard to watch TV from their bed, I am not sure if that person knew it or not or if this is specific to the deluxe rooms, but, the stand the tv is on swivles to face either bed or the chair in the room, so neither of us had any issue with the boob tube. The delux room also had plenty of towles and a bathrobe in the bathroom. This hotel has a very central location, most of the local attractions are within a mile of the hotel, but, wear comfortable shoes because you will do alot of walking. As for the food, we had a hot soup and dessert in the steak house down stairs. The soup was ok but the cheescake was amazing. Also, the wine guy really knows his stuff. We had one drink in the big bar because it was there, nothing amazing and I had ordered on of the special drinks (Big Blue). After going out to dinner in Chicago, the prices for drinks there were just about average, but, we got the normal size drinks.
Yes, I must say this hotel is geared more to a business travler, the morning we left I wanted to print out my boarding pass before going to the airport, just to find out there is a $7 fee for using the computer in the business office and $1 per page charge for a print out (I took a pass). Also, If you rent a car, you dont need one, there is a steap parking charge, but, there are garages around the corner you can use for 1/2 the price.
All in all I enjoyed this hotel. If any one from Hyatt reads this review please put real creamer in the rooms instead of the powder stuff (I had to borrow some from the local 7-11)
