This was my third stay here, and I'm a little disappointed about this last trip. First, prices have gone up significantly; it's still a fine "value," but our "suite" was on par price-wise with a nice room at the Renassaince/Westin-types.
When we landed at the airport, I called to ask the El Stop to detrain. I was calling on my cell. The woman who answered said, Yadda, yadda, "I'm with a guest now, please hold." So I held. 5 minutes later, I hung up. I tried again, same thing. And I held. I called again later, as we were now getting closer to downtown and I was a little nervous. Same answer, so I shouted out "I just have the quickest question," and she started arguing with me! You can tell I'm peeved about this. It's b/c service here used to be so wonderful, and there were always plenty of staff in the past. I had chalked it up to a single problem until I was at the desk later that day and the staff person did the same thing. I told her it was okay with me to attend to the caller, which she did (I have no idea if it was the same person).
This was our first stay in a "suite" here. True, two rooms, which was our goal. However, and I guess this is in keeping with Prairie style, the wall between the two rooms is 3 feet shorter than the ceiling. This defeated the purpose of having a separate work space for me apart from my husband. Too loud.
Gym is 3 aerobic machines. Not a big deal in nice weather, as you are a block from the walking areas, but that's 6 months of the year that are touch-and-go.
Business Center is $5 to use (each time), and only one computer prints. If you stay on 10th floor with the breakfast room, the servers are TOTALLY stressed out on weekends (but they're sweet). Bagels weren't even bagels, stale bread in square bagel form. But the zucchini bread was awesome. Coffee very good.
Location is still prime, prime, prime. And not nearly as expensive as the Palmer House.
I had felt the pleasure of staying here was in part the service, and I found that lacking this time. Hopefully, it was just a passing phase.
