Each year we head down to Madison and ALWAYS choose Key West for our Saturday night dinner. To give you an idea of the type of place it is, the owner doesn't write your name down or how many in your party....he remembers you. Even if there are twenty groups waiting in the downstairs family area complete with board games, he personally comes to get you when your table's ready. It's a family business and it shows!
The neat thing about Key West is it's lack of updating. Normally that would be a turnoff, but it suits the place and we get such a warm feel from dining there. Sort of an old ship theme inside. The service is always excellent and we enjoy the food too. Our favorite thing there is the seafood chowder. We've yet to find a better chowder and believe me, we have tried! The owner's wife personally makes the key lime pie and it is very good too.
My husband and I often share the captain's plate which includes wine, salad bar, and several courses of seafood, steamed, fried, etc. and if you choose you can pay a small charge to add the second salad, soup, and side. (Don't remember for sure if dessert is included.) It's a great deal for those who like variety.
Service is good and prices are reasonable. It's not right downtown but just on a side street...not hard to find. Make the effort and you won't be sorry.
