Hotel Vetro, a great hotel in downtown Iowa City.
It’s great that downtown Iowa City now has another choice for hotels. Everything about our stay here was perfect, and I only hope that Hotel Vetro continues to keep up the good work.
Check-in was fast and the staff was friendly and professional. The lobby is wonderful with an open and modern feel. Parking is in the adjacent parking garage located next to the hotel. A covered walkway connects the two.
The halls are also done with modern and sleek décor.
The room was great. Larger than most hotel rooms, the room was a small studio. Huge windows and plenty of light!
There was a good sized kitchen area upon entering the room. The kitchen contained a glass cook top, microwave, coffee maker, sink and a good sized refrigerator. Also in the kitchen area was a table and chairs.
The main area of the room held two queen beds, a flat screen TV and DVD player, chaise lounge, desk, and two large wardrobes. The beds were some of the most comfortable hotel beds that we have slept on. Good quality linens and plenty of pillows. The room décor is very modern and sleek, with polished concrete floors and sleek furniture. There are large area rugs which cover a good portion of the floors. The floors never felt cold.
The bath was spacious as well, with a large bathtub, walk in shower and plenty of good lighting. The amenities in the bath come from a local shop and were top quality. The bath linens were also high quality. There was plenty of storage as well. Cabinets and drawers provided more than enough space to store anything you travel with.
The room also contained the usual iron, ironing board, robes as well as plenty of storage in the two large wardrobes.
Another plus here was the free high speed internet.
Our room also had a large balcony with a table and four chairs. While the view was nothing spectacular, it was great to have the extra space. As another reviewer stated, the hotel has a non smoking policy for all the rooms. The front desk at check-in did state that smoking was allowed on the balconies. Another plus that I wish more hotels in the states had, was the fact you could open the room window! It’s great to be able to get fresh air.
Also, as another reviewer stated, the AC unit was rather load, but nothing that would stop me from staying there again.
There is also a restaurant located in the lobby. We didn’t have the chance to visit it, but the menu looked very good. A heath club located in the same building was available to hotel guests, but we didn’t check it out. We did order room service for breakfast and the food came from the adjacent Sheraton hotel. While we were not impressed with our stay and the Sheraton, the food there was very good, and the room service breakfast didn’t disappoint. The food arrived on time, and hot.
All in all, this is a great place, and I hope that they keep up the good work. It’s great to have another choice for staying in downtown Iowa City!
