“Lovely and Quiet”

Brown Street Inn

May 5, 2008

This charming bed and breakfast is located in a quiet and lovely historic neighborhood in Iowa City. I stayed in the "Suite" on the top floor and felt I had my own private retreat with windows looking out to the birds and trees.

The innkeepers are very warm and inviting and I enjoyed visiting with the other guests at breakfast.

The breakfasts were all delicious and nicely presented. Plus there were home-baked cookies waiting for me each night.

The interior is beautifully restored and decorated.

I highly recommend Brown Street Inn. It's an excellent value for the money plus I slept great!

“What a gem”

Brown Street Inn

Chicago, Illinois

We stayed at the Brown Street Inn in May 2008 and look forward to returning. It's a lovely clean gracious old home with all the upgrades of much more expensive accommodations. The rooms are spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was completely updated. In the morning we enjoyed a lovely breakfast with plenty of food and coffee and good company. The owners are smart and funny and welcoming and meeting them is reason enough to stay here. We'll be back, for sure!

“Home away from home”

Brown Street Inn

Apr 16, 2008

Just completed our third visit with Mark and Bob and felt like we were leaving home at checkout time. Their warmth and friendliness always make us feel part of an extended family. The food has been delicious and our room immaculate for each visit. Their sightseeing and restaurant recommendations have been outstanding. Reading next to the fireplace has been a joy. The aroma of fresh-baked cookies that magically appear in the evening are a further enticement to relax in a comfortable chair in the living room or on the porch.
We visit Iowa city regularly to see our son who is in graduate school at the University, and can’t imagine staying anywhere else.

“Great choice for a business traveler”

Brown Street Inn

5 of 5 stars
Washington, D.C.

We decided to stay here on a business trip instead of one of the corporate chains. We (3 in our party) were extremely pleased. Mark, who runs the day-to-day operations, is fantastic. He gave us great restaurant recommendations and does a lovely breakfast. I especially liked the fresh fruits and locally baked breads each morning. The inn is very quiet at night and the bed was comfortable. Cookies and tea in the afternoon were a nice treat when we got back from our business meetings. The inn was significantly cheaper than a room at the Sheraton, yet a million times more pleasant! It made our travel much more enjoyable. I would definitely stay there again!

“Splendid”

Brown Street Inn

University City, Missouri

We stayed for two days and two nights and from beginning to end the hospitality, space, and amenities were excellent and amazingly thoughtful. In addition, the included breakfast was fit for a king and queen - not only delicious and in quantity but beautifully served and laid out. The B&B was tastefully and exquisitely decorated and well kept. The owners and guests were respectful of one another, helpful, friendly, and not intrusive. The room that we stayed in was simple yet complete and comfortable. Beautiful, really. The bathroom was clean, pretty, and functional. Water pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water. The B&B is in a beautiful and interesting neighborhood and within walking distance (maybe 1/2 a mile) of a host of restaurants of varying cuisines and costs. There are a lot of college kids in this part of town, though not in the area immediately occupied by the B&B. The B&B is in a quiet residential area near downtown. There are also a lot of fun shops and bookstores. Don't let informal and spartan restaurant appearences deceive you - there is plenty of good food in these places. It's a fun town and fun B&B.
