Where this is rated as the #2 restaurant in Portland, I figure I'd better let folks know what it is! It's a fun and convenient place for folks who work downtown to gather for Happy Hour. Yes, they serve food, but that's hardly why people go there.

I hope there is a picture of Fergus on the wall behind the bar.
Love this place.

On a quiet Sunday night in the middle of April with the rest of Downtown Portland seemingly in a state of hibernation I pretty much literally stumbled across this Irish-themed bar and upon entering was instantly at home. This is my sorta bar, unfussy decor, (though probably carefully designed to lok that way!) good Guinness, excellent friendly service and a bunch of nice people met. From the lady who worked on The DownEaster to my new smoking and drinking buddies what started off as a few relaxing beers became an impromptu mini party, a bit of hokey cokey, then the whiskies and a good night was had by all.
Very impressed, really good craic, but then it is the people who make a place and here they certainly did.
As well as beer etc. Brian Boru also does what appears to be reasonable food and has regular live music, both organised and off-the-cuff, though niether were happening this particular evening
