“Basking in the Glory ofthe Berkshires”

Devonfield Inn

Jun 23, 2008

We recently visited, intending to stay for a few days. We remained for over a week. The place was incredibly comfortable; all too often, too much is invested in the decor and not enough in the basics. Not so at Devonfield. The mattresses were luxurious and we were relaxed in no time. The breakfasts were scrumptious. They plied us with cookies, lemonade and all sorts of treats. Our efforts to leave were futile. Adding to our enjoyment was a congenial atmosphere among the guests which was fostered, at least in part, by the innkeepers.

In addition, Devonfield enjoys an excellent, central location that is an easy commute to many of the area's attractions.

“So lovely - what a great place to spen a babymoon”

We are expecting twins in the fall and wanted to get away for a quiet weekend, away from our toddler, to reconnect before they are born. Now, my husband and I lived in Europe for almost 4 years and we had no idea what to expect - but we were BLOWN AWAY by this inn.

Our room was so beautiful (#5), the house so peaceful, so relaxing - it was just wonderful. I fell asleep in one of the big green chairs overlooking the archery range, while my husband swam in the heated pool. We had delicious iced tea for a snack -The breakfasts were phenomenal and Ronnie just keeps you stuffed! Kim, the asst. innkeeper was so helpful with restaurant reservations and Bruce was terrific with all of his hints about the area.

We hope to be back (maybe in a year!!) when the twins are old enough to be left with unsuspecting relatives. . .

We want to send our gratitude for our warm reception at Devonfield. We all felt treated like family. Our stay in Devonfield was fantastic, a great way to end our vacation. We loved the gourmet breakfast, the friendly service and the lovely view of the different birds in the breakfast room. Devonfield is meticulously maintained with an eye for every detail. Being it our fifth stay at a Selected registry B&B, this was by far the best we ever stayed in.We will be happy to warmly recommend you to our friends.

“Fabulous setting, even archery!”

Devonfield Inn

Mar 12, 2008

You can't help but just love Devonfield. Everything about it is just lovely. The grounds are fabulous, something like 30 acres of space allows them to offer archery, picnicing, snowshoeing, tennis, even the chance to practice your golf swing. I can only imagine how nice it would be in the fall. Because I was here in the winter, I didnt' get to see the pool uncovered or the extensive gardens, but I can tell how lovely they must be in the summer.

I got the chance to see many of the rooms, as I was there during a slower time of year. Many have fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. There are some very cool suites here too.

Bruce is the consumate host. I really liked Devonfield alot!

“Aweful!”

Devonfield Inn

We planned a bridal shower at this inn and invited people from all over New England. When we arrived for the inn on the morning of the shower they charged us more then double what we had been quoted. The owners were very unfriendly and many of the guests of the shower commented on the coldness of the staff.
Overall it was an extremely unpleasent experience.

Management Response

(Management representative)

As they say, no good deed goes unpunished. This complaint is not even travel related. As a favor to a former employee, we allowed our B & B to be used for an afternoon local bridal shower. Three different people came by at different times to approve of the site. They wanted to cater in for 40-50 women. We quoted them a very reasonable rate of
$400 minimum or $10 per head with a $200 deposit. This covered the exclusive use of the House from Noon to 3:30 (guest check in time); candles, wood burning fireplaces, dishes, clean up, extra help, linens, heated up porch, coffee; tea etc. They ended up being 34 people; added a wine tasting and extended their stay from 11-5:30 pm.
When we asked them for the balance ($200) they said the negotiated price was only $200 (the deposit) which comes to $5.88 per person which does not even cover our costs. In the meantime the bride to be and the guests raved about how wonderful everything was and how accommodating we were. I guess the person responsible for paying wasn't as happy. She never argued the point with us and instead wrote this negative review.
