We stayed here for one night in late August, 2005. We stayed in room 5, which was the least expensive room. It was small and basic, though comfortable. I would say it needed a bit of updating, as some of the bathroom fixtures were old. It was very clean and all functioning, however. All rooms in the Inn have balconies. Ours faced the street side. It wasn't what I would call a great view, but it was a nice spot to have a glass of wine and people watch. Keep in mind, the balcony had no roof, so I imagine it would be uncomfortable to sit there in the heat of the summer.
The mattress on the bed wasn't terrible, but it really should have been replaced since it was a little too worn. Another minor annoyance was that there is one thermostat for the floor. When we were there, it was set so low that we were literally shivering. We did turn it up a bit, but we didn't want to take it too far and make our neighbors uncomfortable.
The Inn serves a rather basic continental breakfast, nothing inspiring. It was lovely to eat it outside on their patio on the river. I would have loved to have had one of the rooms facing the river...what a beautiful scene! The Inn is located near one end of the main street along the river, so it's in a great location to get to shops and restaurants. Saugatuck is a beautiful and interesting place to visit!
Overall, the Bayside Inn was a good place to stay, especially for the price. If it wasn't for it's location, I might classify it as an "average" pick, but I really think location was it's main selling point.
