“A little slice of heaven”

Hacienda de la Costa

I have to say, when I got back to rainy Seattle I STILL revisited the Hacienda de la Costa's website daily, just so I could visualise myself sprawled out on the lounge chair next to the pool again. I loved my stay that much. Terri and Steve make you feel at home, without all the hassle of being at home. The morning breakfasts were scrumpious, the laid-back atmosphere, the cold beer and the beautiful sunsets each night, made me want to move in. Come with an open mind and soon you will relax and unwind. Enjoy!

“I almost want to keep it a secret”

Hacienda de la Costa

5 of 5 stars
san francisco
May 1, 2008

But it looks like the secret may be out, so let me add to the glowing reviews. This place is *awesome*. The property is gorgeous, the rooms are great and Terri and Steve could not be better hosts. Between Terri's cooking and Steve's margaritas, I almost didn't even want to go into town (and some days I didn't)! I honestly could go on and on about how great my experience was, but I'll just leave it with "I can't wait to go back".

“Beautiful full service B&B”

Hacienda de la Costa

Hacienda De La Costa is a beautiful B&B in the jungle outside of Sayulita. Steve and Terri are terrific hosts, the rooms are spacious and clean and the whole place has a beautiful view of the ocean. The pool is solar-heated and the perfect temperature even in the evenings. Steve's Margaritas are among the best we have ever had. Our only complaint was that it is not very accessible. We were told it was 2 miles from Sayulita. That must be as the bird flies, it is a significantly longer drive and the drive is slow going as you are on a extremely primative dirt road. We were in a rental sedan, I would recommend something with higher clearance. There is a beach that is about a 15-20 minute walk, but it wasn't great for swimming while we were there because the waves really pounded the shore. We borrowed their umbrellas, ice chest and boogie boards and went to other beaches. We're really active and like to get out and do a lot of things, because of the access this was hard. If you enjoy laying by a pool and relaxing, I highly recommend Hacienda De La Costa.

“The best vacation we have ever had”

Hacienda de la Costa

5 of 5 stars
Vancouver WA

Upon arrival we were greeted by Steve and Terri. While our bags were taken to our room Steve set us up with the perfect margarita. Eventually, he even let my wife behind the bar and taught her the secret. Fresh squeezed limes and equal parts of everything is the key, and you will be ridiculed for the amateur you are if you if you don’t follow that rule. :-) After that I played hell getting her out from behind the bar. From the very first day we were treated as friends, not customers. Weeks after leaving we are still sending emails back and forth.

After reading all the other reviews it is tough to add anything their glowing (and 100% deserved) reputation. The estate is a work of art. The pool is the perfect temperature, feeling cool in the day and plenty warm for a night swim. And the Food!!! We deliberately ventured into town for a few dinners just to see what it was like but mostly so as not to make Terri cook for us every night. Nothing we had in town ever came close.

The atmosphere at the Hacienda is so laid back it is nearly upside down. We were given free reign of the place and I have never been made to feel more at home. Another couple staying there (Sean and Laura) became our surfing companions and even after they changed hotels we still met them every day. Two girls staying there (Heidi and Sonja) went in with us to rent an off-road golf cart to drive to town. If you have the means, I highly recommend it. If we had been staying at some uppity hotel without Steve and Terri there to break the ice and get things started we would have stayed in our rooms and been 4 friends poorer for it. They even had two very well behaved dogs (Peso and Lucy), which was great for many of us missing our dogs at home.

Want to be waited on hand and foot? Want exciting night life and binge-drinking frat boys? Want valets, espresso, access to sea-world, hypo-allergenic spa treatments and a daycare center? Well…. I am not sure where you can find all those things together, but you won’t find any of them here. You may find us here however, because we will certainly be back.

“Shhhhh...”

Hacienda de la Costa

5 of 5 stars
Los Angeles

It's a complete steal and dream location. This Villa nestled on a hillside in the jungle overlooking the Pacific is rooted in tranquility and shear peacefulness.

If you can imagine yourself and loved one(s) sitting at a table watching one of the most beautiful sunsets over the Pacific you'll ever experience while sipping a cool and (okay, so bring your own wine cuz you ain't finding it in Sayulita) 'fine" Chard, and overlooking spotless grounds as bats dart back and forth just under the lush canopy before you while they pursue their insect dinner, don't. Just book it now and go!!! Seriously, I would have paid TWICE as much or more to stay here and still felt like it was a bargain. You're not going to find anything comparable in Sayulita. Trust, we hit and investigated every property within 20 miles and in town. We were fortunate to have seven dreamy nights and days here but we stayed in town longer than what was available at the Hacienda so we settled for, shoot, what was the name??? Ummm...down by the beach in town, ah, Villa Amor. People like this place but seriously, it doesn't come close and it's significantly more expensive, not great unless you're 18 and on spring break and want to hit the clubs on the beach, . Hah, hah, actually, we hit the clubs and just returned to our quiet paradise. It really is the crux of the beauty about staying at the Hacienda de la Costa. You can play in town and then ditch out and return to serenity.

Simple planning between town and your home (back at the Hacienda) is effortless. You really don't have to even leave the premises between relaxing poolside (solar heated) and your private lil beach down the hill, which is a 10 minute walk. Terri's dinners are spot on tasty and robust, she'll make you what you want (sorry, Terri but it's true)!!! =) I don't eat meat and everything she came up with was incredibly sumptuous.

Everything about the Hacienda and its proprietors is pitch perfect.

I didn't even want to write this review. As a surfer born and raised coastally in Southern California, we normally don't volunteer info. on great finds.

Pics coming soon.

Cheers to the lucky folks who are going!
