I'll admit I was a bit apprehensive the first time I dined at the Union Station-area Jack Stack...what would they lose in the transition to a brick, lumber, and white tablecloths setting?

Turns out, not to worry. The food is still great, my favorite of the KC barbeque places, now in a location more convenient to tourists and business travelers.

I've been a fan of Smokestack / Jack Stack barbeque since the 50's, when my dad would bring home sandwiches from the Smokestack on Prospect @ US71.

Visited the Martin City place many times as well in the ensuing years, to the point of taking co-workers from three different companies there in the course of my career ("where in the heck IS this place? We're way out in the country, aren't we?").

So it was nice to see and taste all the familiar favorites at the newest, easier-for-visitors location: tender beef ribs (hard to find, most places only have pork), cheesy potato bake, the baked beans, and those great onion rings. I need to branch out again, I've settled on the burnt ends dinner each time lately, I should try something else that may be as delicious.

Service was very good, all young and presumably newer staff, but we lacked for nothing and weren't interrupted more than you'd think.

We'll keep visiting.

This past weekend my family and myself visited your Overland Park location after wating 1hr.45min. to be seated I am glad we came at 6P.M.,the service was quick then the food came and what a disappointment , the ribs were burned beyond being ediable and the chicken was so overdone and dry it just crumbled away . My daughter got the susage and ham combo the susage was burned I will give you credit the ham was ok and the sides were good. The waiter disappeared until the bill was dropped on the table and someone else came by and picked up the payment in the mean time there was a group of your wait staff standing nearby making coments that they wished we would move because there was another party to seat, no one asked how the food was or if everything was ok . As a first time visitor I was very dissapointed I have eaten BBQ in a lot of places and by far yours was the worst,

Just returned from KC and went to Jack Stack for lunch. The service was excellent. I had the Burnt ends and ribs (both beef) with the Cole Slaw and the cornbake. The food was really good and the portions were very big.

This had to be the best place we ate at while we were in Kansas City. I would recommend to anyone going to KC who wants some real good KC BBQ.

well, here we were.. bbq capitol.. yet, i think i've had better @ Lucilles in CA. The beans were TO DIE FOR and so was the cheezy corn bake (needed some seasoning). I had the sampler (Pork Spareribs, one beef rib, kilbasa & a 1/4 chicken) it was ok.. but, i've had better. My granparents shared the baby backs which were good, but not very tender. The sauce was excellent! The service was ok, but we got jipped on the bill. 67 dollars for 3 meals and 3 cocktails - gave a hundred dollar bill and got jipped 5 bucks. Needless to say, the waiter only got a 5 dollar tip. The atmosphere was fabulous, housed in an old train house.. it was pretty cool. The waiter was kinda slow and a bit loopy.. ( i would ask for something.. he would forget... every single time).

Other than that.. the food was good, but i've had better.
