Henderson is fast becoming the Ft. lauderdale (or New jersey) of the Vegas area. Nothing but wide 6-lane boulevards, strip malls, larger malls, and chain hotels with an occasional casino and bar thrown in. That said, the HGI was a clean, comfortable, and semi-intimate locale for a recent small-ish annual conference that only required the available 3 meeting rooms. The pool area was quite pleasant with lots of available towels although I found the hot tub too hot and the pool itself too cold. Fortunately, the martini I was drinking was just right. Rooms were large with extremely comfortable beds and enough pillows for an army division. The plasma TVs are a nice touch even though we had a little problem with ours that the maintenance people solved quickly. Bathrooms were clean with good towels. In-rooom fridge worked fine despite to temperature setting. A/C very efficient (use the thermostat on the wall) and the windows open all the way! Wireless access worked well but not the remote printing. There were three computers in the "business center," though so make sure you bring your flash drive. Beware that breakfast is not on the house but there's a small dining area where you can get a continental buffet ($6.95) or table service for slightly more. There's also a bar in the dining area but we were drinking our own hootch and nobody seemed to mind. There's a pretty good bar/restaurant across the street along with the requisite Starbucks and Quickie Mart. The Sunset casino is a 10 minute walk. IHOP and Denny's about 5 minutes. But things are a bit farther apart than they seem on mapping programs so beware. My only complaint is that the one pair of elevator is pretty far from many of the rooms, so be prepared to take the stairs in order to save time. Likewise, the ice machines are near the elevators and quite a stroll when the martinis are heating up.
