I have stayed in a lot of hotels in Vegas over the last 35 years, so I do have a reference. I actually lived 3 miles from Sunset Station when it was being built, but I never set foot in there.
Last weekend was my annual golf trip and we switched from the Golden Nugget to the SS for ease of transporation to golf and good rates. I read the previous reviews, so I knew this wouldn't be Ballagio...and it doesn't try to be.
The best part of this hotel is the staff. I must say that without exception, they were all very friendly and accomodating. Dealers...front...valet...all top marks for customer service.
The room was fine. The sheets were clean and the bathroom curtain was new. It wasn't trying to be a 5 star resort, nor did I expect it. We found the food was just fine. Our going away dinner for 11 at the Cellar was excellent and far less expensive than other steak houses we have done that at. No complaints from anyone about that meal.
The only real complaint I had was the smoke. It seemed like everyone smoked everywhere, every moment they could! The ceilings were not very high, so it was a little rough, even for seasoned casino goers like me.
All in all it was just fine for what we needed...a place to sleep, change clothes, and have some fun.
