This was mine and my girl's first time in Las Vegas...together. We had both been there before so we had some idea on what to expect as far as the people, the lights, the noise, the traffic...the city in general. We were determined to have a good time, being that we're both in the travel industry and rarely travel ourselves.
We arrived a little after dusk. The parking was okay. It was actually a bit of a walk if you don't park up front and use the valets, but not too bad. Check in was swift and friendly, and we were directed toward our room. Here's were things got weird!
Our room was a Garden Standard on the third floor and there were beer bottles and martini glasses on the desk...not good. We called immediately down stairs to have them come clean the room, which was okay since we were planning on going out to the strip and looking around on foot. We were gone about two hours, and upon our arrival, everything was shiny new like it never happened. We figured no harm no foul and went to sleep on the very comfortable, very large bed. The next morning we got up, had breakfast, and got back to the room around noon to sleep off my six omelettes! I soon realized that there was no AC in this room. The sun was being reflected right through our window and we felt like we were cooking. After the AC control switch had been turned all the way down for an hour before we call to inquire. We were told that the hotel doesn't activate its AC until June 1st. Again, my girl came through on this one, HUGE!
My girl, who is a customer service genius, immediately asked to speak to someone. She threatened to take our business down the road if something was done. Within 20 minutes, we were packed and on our way to the front desk where we were shown to the Island Tower. This is the room we should have gotten. This room did have AC, and much much more. It was very clean, huge bed...with mirrors all around and on the ceiling! The most awesome bathroom I've ever had in a hotel, with a tub big enough for the two of us to sit down and stretch out completely. The view wasn't much, but had we been on the other side, there are great views to be had. There was even a little shopping boulevard on the way to the tower area from the casino floor. The vendors there weren't very pushy and very polite. This room made our trip so perfect we were ready to stay another night.
The thing that brought everything together was the customer service at the Tropicana. People there were more than willing to help make up for the mistakes beyond their control. Service was friendly and always prompt. I would definitely stay there again, but this time I'll get the Island Tower to start!
