“Had It's Time”

Sahara Hotel & Casino

2 of 5 stars
Hamilton
Aug 8, 2007

Stayed here one night - Sat. July 28/07 - booked last minute the day before - two adults for $140. Hotel has had it time - casino and lobby look nice but that's about it. Rooms are old and run down - very basic room - bathroom was clean but needed a face lift - sink had rust in it - bed and pillows were horrible - no fridge in room. Our room was right near the roller coaster, so beware very noisey if you want to get a early nap - you will hear a loud rummble like a plane going by every 5 minutes. Cannot control the air - it was 118 degrees when we were in Vegas and we couldn't cool the room down enough. For the money I would not stay here again - spend a little extra and go down the strip to a newer and nicer hotel.

“Worst on the Strip”

Sahara Hotel & Casino

Aug 7, 2007
0/2 found this review helpful

I've stayed at nearly every hotel on the strip and had some friends staying here so thought I would give it a try. Big mistake, easily the worst hotel on the strip. Hopefully this hotel will go the way of some of the other hotels and be "imploded" like the previous post suggested. It is very old and worn. We stayed there with friends and all agreed they would never stay there again. These are run down hotel rooms, not even worth the cheap rates they can be had for. Our room had soiled carpets, all bathroom floors were tile but the original "white" grout is now "black" from years of dirt. Each of our rooms also had a strange odor. The parking elevators broke down while we where there, and half the buttons in the main elevators don't even work. They also have graffiti scratched on the panels. The one positive is the pool area, which is nice for such a rundown hotel. Needless to say I would not recommend this hotel, it would be hard to find a room or hotel in worse shape.

“Enjoy the Sahara!”

Sahara Hotel & Casino

Jul 31, 2007

We go to Las Vegas every few months, so sometimes we like to stay low key. When we do, we stay at Sahara. The suites on the 27th floor of the Tangiers Tower are lovely, great views, and very roomy. Its a delite to be able to park your car and walk to your room in 5 minutes. When we stay other places, it takes HOURS to get from the parking garage to the room. Not fun when you're tired of walking! The pool is nice, not huge, and not real crowded. I even managed to get my laps in first thing at 8am. The Mexican restaurant downstairs is just fine, and we had NO wait to eat. The monorail is handy, unlike for example, the stop at MGM. You have to walk forever to get to the strip.
This property just sold. Im sure its probably going the way of the other older properties, imploded for ritzy condos and over-priced suites. Its a shame this is happening in Vegas. Pretty soon, you will have to be a high roller just to go and stay there, whether or not you actually gamble. There's a projected new property going in next door on the old water park property, if they get FAA approval. It will be the tallest building in Vegas, and beyond apparently. Its only a matter of time.

“Sahara Hotel / USA Basketball”

Sahara Hotel & Casino

4 of 5 stars
Phoenix, AZ
Jul 31, 2007

Great time in Vegas! We stayed three nights at the Sahara, came in to see USA Basketball at the Thomas and Mack Center. The hotel was clean and a great deal for the price. Their original rate was higher on their website than one of the other vegas sites and they matched the lower rate. It was easy to get around with the Monorail right there. Try Pacos mexican restaurant at the hotel, good food and great margaritas. ESPNZone at NYNY is a gas if you like sports, beer, and a fun time eating big burgers. The casino at the Sahara seemed to be paying well we won serveral small jackpots and saw one couple being paid 10K on one of the dollar machines. Going back again in Nov and plan on staying there again.

“Great for the price”

Sahara Hotel & Casino

Jul 28, 2007

Flew into Vegas on last minute notice last September, 2006 for a convention. The hotels I usually stay at were sold out so I opted to try the Sahara becasue it was cheap and on the monorail line. Check in was super fast. I was given a suite that was absolutely huge. I only paid $79 for the night and I was sure they gave me this room by mistake, but I didn't complain. I was sleeping exactly 2 floors below where the Beatles had slept when they stayed here in the 1960's. Same size room. And I had it all to myself. Since I only slept here, it was just fine. Very quiet and clean. Everyhting worked great. Had to leave my bags with the front desk as I had a late flight out but checkout time is noon. No problem. Staff were more than happy to keep my bags in the locker room for free for the day. Would definitely stay here again for the price. I only had breakfast once at the coffee shop which was fine. Gambling is great as the table limits are low. Don't know what everyone is writing about that is negative. Great place to stay if you are just sleeping and/or gambling here. I don't care about the rest of the place as the rest of my time was spent in other parts of Vegas on business or having dinners on the strip in more upscale restaurants. Probably not the place to go if you are trying to look for haute cuisine or a dashing pool scene.
