I stayed for a week here as part of a three week US tour (Los Angeles, San Fran, Vegas) while my parents stayed at the Luxor (much more expensive) and I can honestly say I preferred the Excalibur. The building itself is very stylish, especially at night - who doesn't love a storybook castle (complete with Merlin)?
Location is good, with a monorail running between Excal-Luxor-Mandalay Bay with one running from the MGM Grand down to the other end of the strip within walking distance (although you may struggle during the heat of the midday sun). Check in was godawful - huge queues and only around five people serving; although there were auto-checkin machines, they only seemed to work for around two or three people. When I arrived (Memorial Day) housekeeping were behind and the mess the previous tenant left was not cleared away till 9pm, not ideal when you first check in and want to get settled.
Room was nice - bigger than a Luxor tower room with an opening window, should you wish to use it (although I arrived in moth season, so I stuck to the a/c) and a roomy bathroom.
Hotel was, as Vegas hotels tend to be, a bit confusing and you can tend to get lost in the casino if you're not prepared - here's a tip: head towards the registration desks as the entrance is right next to it (Vegas hotels never advertise this, seemingly).
All in all pretty good - when you make your reservation try to find out if you can use self checkin as this will save you an awful lot of time when you arrive.
