“Play this course at least once in your life”

My group of guys - 22 this year - went to Mesquite this year instead of Myrtle Beach specifically to play this course. (BTW - while you're in Mesquite, don't miss the Oasis Palmer course.) I cannot understand how anyone can play Wolf Creek and not walk away in total awe at not only the views, but what it must have taken to build this course. Beware - this course is not for the high handicapper or anyone with limited mobility. It can be extrememly difficult, particularly when the wind blows. Try to play it early in the morning to avoid the wind.

The course was in great shape, and the people were friendly and accomodating. Yes, the rounds took 5 1/2 + hours, but the pace did not seem exceptionally slow. Bring lots of balls and lots of patience and expect a high score!

My only criticism of the course is that they don't have a set of tees where the course plays 6100-6200 yards. You have to chose between 6500 and 5800 yards, and most of us MEN won't play a course under 6000 yards. Check your ego at the first tee and, unless you can drive the ball 250+ yards and keep it straight, play the 5800 yards tees!

This course is worth the trip, whether you stay in Mesquite or just drive there from Vegas. Compared to what it costs to stay and play in Vegas, this course is a bargain. Another plus to staying in Mesquite is the hotels and food are relatively inexpensive, and you can always find $5 table...

Played Wolf Creek in mid Dec 07. the weather was great for me, around 52. Teed off at 10AM after a frost delay. My experience with golf was mainly some slight elevation and very little mountain golf but this experience was truely delightful for our group.Recommend it for all but choose your tee box carefully. We played back on a few and not only was the view unbelieveable so was the effort. Keep your foot on the gas going uphill and on the brake comming down.. All in all ....a great time was had by all.

This is a beautiful course, particularly late in the day as the sun sets. The holes are demanding and rank beginners would not be able to avoid numerous penalty strokes. I think that is the main problem. Beause it requires accuracy off the tee and into the greens, less talented players are going to have numerous lost balls. It took us 3 hours to play the front nine and when we talked to the ranger he said that 5+ hours is the norm. The pace picked up on the back nine after the ranger pushed the groups ahead of us but it still took over 5 hours. Come prepared to wait!

“6-hour round, blind approach shots, bad service, no fun”

Where do I start? How about that the posted pace of play is 5:17? The views are not nearly as spectacular as the website - Scottsdale is 100 times prettier. I can't understand how Golf Digest ranks this course so highly, it is not in the top 200 that I have ever played.
First of all they never should've built a golf course on such a hilly spot. It is amazing that they were able to, but the result is 12 approach shots where you can only see the very top of the flag. I don't mind that every once in a while, but it gets old after the first six holes are like that. Plus on 8 of 14 drives you can't see the landing area.
But the worst thing has to be the pace of play. It took us 1:45 to play the first five holes. From the sixth tee we could see that the group two ahead of us had two holes open in front of them, so we asked the marshall to talk to them. He said he would, but we were still waiting on them on the 8th hole.
It took 3 hours to play the front nine, and the group two ahead of us was just leaving the 10th tee. So I went in the pro shop to see what could be done. While I was in there two people called on their cell phones from the fourth and seventh hole wondering why play was so slow. I told the lady that the group on #10 was the problem, but she told me that the pace of play is 5:17 and they were on schedule.
If I knew the pace of play was 5:17 I never would've come to this place. But I don't know how a 3:30 nine translates to being on that pace anyway. On the 11th green the marshall told us we were 6 minutes ahead of pace, even though it had taken us 4 hours to play 11 holes! The worst part was how no one on staff cared about the two open holes or the 6+ hour pace.
This was the worst experience I've ever had on a golf course.

I played this course during a recent stay in Las Vegas. The drive was about an hour from the strip and well worth the trip. I would do it again without hesitation. This was one of the most enjoyable courses I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The course was in immaculate condition and I can assure you --you have never played a course quite like Wolf Creek. It was like teeing off a fifteen story building on many of the holes. Yes, play was a bit slow(6 hrs. on Friday morning), but I was enjoying myself so much, I didnt seem to mind. I have played quite a few courses across the country and can honestly say that there are only a few I would make a special trip to play again, this is one of them. If you have the opportunity to play Wolf Creek, it is truly a experience you won't soon forget. Be sure to bring your camera.
