I am a Jamaican who lives in London and was back home for funeral and a short break. As usual i always stay in hotels but never at Jakes. I found the experience to be wonderful (stayed in mussels villa 8) The food is excellent and staff are always attentive and professional.
I have read some of the negative reviews and can only put it down to the tourists are not happy in their lifes and on their holiday are still not totally relaxed!!!

a great destination if your not into the hassle and bussle of negril or mobay and to top it of the locals are very friendly

Big up St Elizabeth

My husband and I spent the last leg of our 3 week weddingmoon at Jakes... we were married in Jamaica at a small resort in a small fishing village, and honestly expected Jakes to be very similar in feel. We were very disappointed. I know most people see bad reviews of this place as poor expectations, but we had just spent a week in Negril, and were really looking forward to getting back to a more real Jamaican feel.

We stayed in the Octopussy 1 and Seapuss. For the price, we expected a lot more. Now, I'm not saying we expected TVs and extertainment (not what we were looking for), but we did expect mosquito netting (which we didn't have in Octopussy), a closing door (which we didn't have in Seapuss) and clean towels. In 3 weeks in Jamaica, we were never eaten alive more than at Jakes. We would wake up in the morning scratching because we got eaten alive at night.

The outdoor showers were great, but there is little hotwater to the Octopussy rooms, and it was cool in the afternoons when we typically showered. The water ran out in about 5 minutes, so you couldn't really enjoy them. It was better in the Seapuss room.

The food at the hotel was REALLY hit or miss, and expensive. It was American prices and we never had a really good meal. We did, however, have a meal that we sent back because it was inedible. We weren't the only people sending food back. We saw it happen several times during our stay. My advice is to eat elsewhere. It will be a third of the cost, and way better! There is a small cafe down the road that serves great breakfast, the restaurant next door has fantastic lunch/dinner (Pod Snappers?), and on the weekends, you can get amazing jerk about 1/2 a mile down the road at one of the local groceries. Jack Sprats was decent if you are in the mood for pizza or ice cream.

The resort is very funky and layed back, but they are completely charging you for the Island Outpost name without the quality. If you want to stay in Treasure Beach, which is an awesome town with amazing people and nature, don't waste your money staying at Jakes.

This is an absolutely wonderful place, we loved it the minute we arrived.
The staff is very gracious and helpful. Our room was small but really nice and cosy. The gardens are lovely, the views great.
And the food... it was really really good!
There is a pool, sun lounges, a little beach. They can also provide you with massages.
We took a tour organised by Joseph: we spent a whole day on a deserted beach, perfect for snorkeling, had a barbecue there and a little trip to the Pelican bar. It was reasonnably priced and we had a great day!
This place is a heaven where you really feel at home and we'd love to go back!

“A better-late-than-never rave review...”

Stayed at Jake's last summer as part of a 30th birthday trip with three girlfriends. We stayed at Sweetlip and had a tremendous time; I'll never forget it. I must say that the Treasure Beach area might have been a bit remote and spare for my tastes, if not for Jake's, which feels so warm and cozy and tranquil and totally stylish. The colors are rich and warm and the vibe is perfectly relaxed. I remember thinking we got an awesome deal at the time (although I can't exactly remember our rate now; I know I asked for a AAA discount and, surprisingly, got it) for the quality of the experience. And now I hear a spa has opened, so I'm sure they've managed even to improve on what was already perfection last year. Thanks, Jake's, for easing my passage into the big 3-0.

“The Crown Jewel Of Treasure Beach”

Jake's Resort was our third stop on our recent trip to Jamaica. Nestled along Jamaica's beautiful south coast, it's one of the most romantic places that we have ever visited.

We stayed in Octopussy 1, and really loved our romantic seaside castle. The view is simply incredible, the ocean waves seem to be breaking at your doorstep. Pelicans dive into the azure blue surf, searching for a sefood snack. It's not at all uncommon to see pods of dolphins breaching just offshore. Jake's truly is is a nature lover's paradise. It's hard to believe it's all real.

We absolutely loved the outside shower, which had plenty of privacy for us. Plenty of hot water, too. We also had air conditioner, a ceiling fan, a small fridge and an MP3 compatible radio in our artsy little Moorish palace. Our only suggestions for improvement would be an in - room safe and a better coffee maker.

The upstairs deck area at Octopussy 1 was a great place to sunbathe or to have a meal from nearby Jack Spratt's seafood and pizza restaurant. My wife discovered, much to her delight, that Jack Spratt's also has ice cream for sale. There's a couple of small grocery stores within walking distance, too.

The grounds at Jake's are beautiful, lovingly tended by Winston. A quiet salt water pool beckons to you as you enter the property, as does Dougie's Bar, where the man himself will gladly mix you up a tropical rum punch that will knock your socks off.

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. There's a computer available in the front office/lobby if you need to check your email.

All of our dining experiences at Jake's were excellent.
I do recommend getting there early for the best meal selection, as some of the more popular entrees "sold out" during the course of the dinner service. And wear some bug spray too, the few mosquitos that we did see were out around dinner time. Other than that, we did not have an issue with them at all.

Getting to Jake's does take some effort, we loved the ride through the countryside but it might not be for everyone. Those who do make the extra effort to get there are sure to be rewarded with a one of a kind travel experience.

Jake's Resort is the crown jewel of Treasure Beach.
