After 5 nights in the rather busy and populated, but still beautiful and eventful Negril [See our entry titled: We all should Idle Awhile], we wanted something more laid back (although we had no idea how laid back). So, we headed to the Southern Coast to a small community called Calabash Bay in Treasure Beach. We stayed at this absolutely perfect little beach front inn called Marblue Villa Suites. First of all, expect a dramatic culture shock when you arrive at this little hide-away, because there are no busy roads, honking car horns or pushy salesmen on the beach. Secondly, expect unparalleled and very personal attention to your every need. Axel, Andrea (your hosts) and their friendly staff (numbering almost 1 staff member per room) really take care of you. From the time you take your morning dip in either of the fresh water pools to the time you finish your exceptional 3 course dinner, someone is there to make your cocktail or just to chat. I want to especially convey that this place and these people, for us, completed our Jamaican experience. Every night, Axel prepares a feast, and will often ask what your heart desires before he puts his culinary brilliance to work. So, I highly recommend that you purchase the dinner option. It is well worth the additional expense, and its probably a better value than you could enjoy anywhere else. Axel also prepares your breakfast and lunch, which are also always fresh and extremely tasty. I must mention the rooms. When you come through the door to your suite and look straight ahead of you to the other end, you see this huge picture of the ocean. Only it's not a picture. The front of your suite is wide open to the carribean sea. It's a little like watching a movie with sounds, smells and a breeze. The waves are crashing literally 50 yards from your verandah. I recommend getting a second floor suite, although all of them come with a view that will tranquilize you. Although there are outings such as Black River or YS Falls, don't overbook your stay here. Just let it do what it's meant to do and truely relax and heal. We walked for some distance on the beach in each direction, and only saw a handful of human beings, locals mostly. We also found our own little slice of beach where we cooled off in the ocean, truely alone! We will be back to Marblue as soon as our schedule allows. Axel and Andrea should be very proud of their little slice of heaven.

“You must stay at Marblue”

If you are going to explore the South Coast of Jamaica, you must stay
at Marblue. The facility is beautifully designed so that each room/suite
has a fantastic view of the ocean and pool. Much thought has gone into
the layout and stylish personal touches. It turns out our host had been an
architect in a previous life and it shows in the property. Both Andrea and
Axel were extremely helpful and showed just the right amount of
being attentive. Our party ranged in age from 18 - 60 and we all loved
the place. We've traveled extensively in the Caribbean so have a good
sense of what passes for well thought out accomodations. Marblue
has the perfect mix of rusticity and high style. See their web site for
pictures...

I arrived at Marblue Hotel with some friends of mine we were looking for a wonderful time at this place and seeing that it was our first time I was expectimg to enjoy myself to the best. After been there for one week things were going ok but the lady that owns the hotel was alwasy so uptight and made everthing seems to bother her all the time they even had a time when not to use the pool it was anytime after 10pm and it made us not feel too welcome on our vacation. For the money that we spent we expected better service from the owners. The staff were wonderful from the front desk lady to the wonderful bedroom and kitchen staff who tired their best to make us feel welcome.I do belive that the ownners need to be more guest friendly. Thy even had a dog as security and the local people werent allowed on the property on like by Jakes hotel were the locals can come and spend a wonderful time with u. I will never return to Marble I will try Jakes next time it more caterd for persons who isnt so up tight.

We went to MarBlue for our honeymoon last month. The drive there is an experience :) but it was worth it! The owners greeted us immediately and showed us around. They have a bar and restaurant on site, as well as two pools, so we had all the conveniences one would need on their honeymoon. We were close enough to town that we could walk to Jack Sprat's to eat. We also felt safe and did not have a problem walking around by ourselves. We chartered a boat to the Pelican Bar one afternoon, which was awesome! We saw dolphins along the way. MarBlue had a/c, patios overlooking the ocean, and wonderful service. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The food is AWESOME! We had a wonderful time and hope to make it back to MarBlue soon.

“Nice Rooms, Uptight Hostess”

We wanted to stay at Jake's but it was booked solid due to a wedding. I let my buddy, the first timer, choose a hotel and he chose Mar Blue. Mar Blue is the most upscale hotel in all of Treasure Beach and everything about Mar Blue shows high class, with super-firm beds, nifty A/C, excellent pools and superb ocean view. We spent three nights here and had a nice, relaxing time in the pool chilling out and drinking away.

Having said all this, I would rather stay at Jake's like we did last time. If all you want is to come to Jamaica and stay at a place like Mar Blue and eat your meals here (the owner is a chef), drink their booze, and not go outside at nights, this is the place for you. I didn't care for the "illusion" that the owners tries to create that Treasure Beach is dangerous by using a cute little watchdog and 24-hour security. Also the locals were apparently not welcome in Mar Blue (this place is gated) and several locals that I spoke with did not like the owners, probably because they’ve alienated themselves with them.

I don’t think Mar Blue is for everyone. I’d rather hang out at Jakes or Jack Sprat’s where the locals can freely come and go and you can share stories with them. To me, Mar Blue is just one step away from an All Inclusive.
