“Not what I expected!”

Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center

Very nice place to visit for a day and look around.
I would not stay there again.
Rooms were average.
Some of the staff was funny, most didn't want to be bothered.
Spa was very over booked!! (we cancelled our appts)
Great place for picture taking and having a drink with friends.
Not very entertaining as a I thought a resort should have been.
Quite a disappointment for our mother/daughters weekend.

    • Disliked — Pretty much everything except the sports bar. (mind you, I don't drink or even like sports!)

“We enjoyed it!!!”

I had a great time. My wife and I decided to get away for a night for my birthday locally as We live in the DFW area. After looking at the other reviews for this place was a little worried. Did the Summerfest special which included the resort fee, the parking fee and breakfast buffet the next morning. Stayed on Friday night and enjoyed the pool. Bar service was great. Disc Jockey at pool was great. Music, and Trivia games. Ended up with three pairs of cheap sunglasses:) Night time was fun in the atrium. The gold Cowboy. The living grapevine, and the fire juggler. Indoor firework show was good. Could have replaced the Star wars music with something more western. But good. The 8th floor king corner room was great with a wonderful view of Lake Grapevine. And the breakfast was great with a huge buffet! Better than any Cruise ship I've been on. The only minus was that I ordered a hamburger at the pool and the waiter brought it with nothing on it but meat and bread. But when I asked he quickly returned with lettuce tomato and condiments. So all was fixed quickly. I will come here again when this hotel has specials such as this! Thanks Gaylord Texan, just the local getaway I needed. Oh yeah, Wife had the Deep tissue massage in the Spa and said it was the best!

“Don't understand it????????”

Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center

Jun 2, 2008

Don't understand what the big thing is about this "bubble" of a hotel. More hokey then anything. Service is nothing. Nothing to service. Concerige is the only good thing. Rooms are tiny and cramped. Staff has no time for anything. Takes a long time to walk from the main atrium to the front of the hotel. 4.00 for a cup of tea? That is a sin. Everything was massively expensive and the housekeeping was not the best. Very nosiy even at night in the main atruim on the 14th floor you could hear everything downstairs. Air is kind of stuffy in the bubble. Kind of felt claustrophobic there. Had a nicer time at the Marriott across the street. Would not bother here again.

“Much ado about nothing”

Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center

Although the holel interior is very impressive, This hotel is not for parents with children in tow. This is definitely an adult hotel. A bowl of cereal with milk and fresh fruit was $17.00, and they made it clear to expect to tip the waiter when served. We left the hotel to have all our meals, there are more reasonable places in the area. The rooms themselves were small and nothing special. I was disappointed with the room decor. For as much money as it cost to stay there, I expected more. For such a large hotel, there were no amenities for children. Parking was $10 a day and not included in the room rate. Our stay there was paid for by my company. Knowing what I know now, I would not pay to stay there, it was just not worth the money. The staff was very nice and attentive. The rooms were very clean but small. The view we had of Lake Grapevine was great.

“Walls as thin as paper”

Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center

Dallas, TX

The overall property is beautiful. It does a wonderful job of recreating the "Riverwalk" in a scaled down version. The on property spa is another high point at the hotel. Customer service is not this hotel's strong point. We stayed as part of a girls getaway package which included a fruit and cheese platter as well as a bottle of wine. When we got to our room, there was not one ice cube left in the ice bucket for the wine and the bread on the platter was very dry. When someone called to make sure we received the platter and wine, I commented on the lack of ice and she made no comment. She said she just wanted to make sure we received it. We then went down to eat dinner at the Riverwalk Cafe. The food was good but the service was horrible. This eatery only serves food "market style" or buffet style. The cost is $28 per person so the wait staff only fills drinks and takes away dirty dishes. Our waitress disappeared and we had difficulty ever getting a refill on any beverage. We ate at this particular location in the morning as part of our package and received the same level of inattention. I assume this is just how they operate. As a side note, the cafe was not so crowded that one would assume that was the issue. Upon returning to our room and going to bed, we noticed multiple and sizable holes in the bed linens. Not something I expect to see at a $300 a night hotel. At 2 am, our next door neighbors came in very loudly. They were very drunk and loud. I called the front desk and they sent security up. We assumed this would end the problem, but we were wrong. The walls are so thin in this hotel that we could hear every word of every conversation these women were having. This is also not something we expect to find in a high end hotel. In the morning, there was a problem with a charge that was not supposed to be on the bill which turned into another hassle. Upon speaking with a supervisor, he credited the cost of our morning breakfast. When you take into consideration that in one night we spent around $720 in the hotel, we don't feel much was done to make sure we returned. This was confirmed upon speaking with a manager at checkout. She was rude and basically told us that a free breakfast was more than reasonable for a noise complaint. She did not care about the rest of the issues in her hotel. If you don't mind walls that are as thin as paper, rude hotel employees, and overpriced accommodations, then this is your hotel! Also note that the $12 per night self parking, is quite a walk away from the main hotel lobby. They also do not have the quality bath products in the room that one would expect from this type of hotel. I am sure not everyone that visits this property will experience this poor level of service, but we most certainly did.
