“WOW!! This Place was the best I have stayed at!!”

Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center

5 of 5 stars
san antonio
Jul 3, 2008

I stayed at the Gaylord for a four day convention. I have to say just driving up to the property was amazing. The landscaping and attention to detail was something like you would see at Sea World or Disney. The entrance, lobby, resturants, courtyard... all were amazing. They really put a lot of time and money into this place and it really shows. Checkin was very easy. I was given a key card to a room that someone was in already. The staff was very empathetic and very quick to upgrade me to a suite.

The Staff must have had some customer service training as a requirement because they were all so helpful and nice. I went to the sports bar (fantastic by the way with all the tv screens) one night and was ordering drinks at the bar with some friends and we went back the next night and the bar tender must have remembered my name off of my tab and immediately greeted me "Welcome back Mr. Smith"

Everything from the Glass Cactus, to the cigar bar with an on hand cigar specialist, this was the best place I have ever stayed at.

I want to go back with my family..... Thanks to all the staff of the Gaylord for making a great experience..

“Excellent experience at the Gaylord”

Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center

The Gaylord in Grapevine ,just north of DFW airport in Grapevine,TX, is a wonderful resort. I was there for a convention & the setup with the covered parking, convention center & hotel all in one place was very convenient. Although smaller than the Nashville Gaylord, it has the same atrium covered greenhouse layout. The landscaping inside and outside is spectacular with jogging trails out to Lake Grapevine. My standard room on the 8th floor faced the lake with great sunset views. They are building a hotel annex so I don't know how long those views will last . A separate nightclub is on the lake across from the lobby& besides dj's and local bands offer visiting country western singers. There were indoor fireworks on Friday night ( during the summer ) which was an unusual treat. Staff were helpful & friendly. The outdoor pool area was small & ordinary though the crowds seemed to be having a good time. The 2 restaurants I tried (Texan Station and Ama Lur) tended to be pricey and good but not great . There is a 24 hour coffee Starbucks type area which was convenient- good cookies- but stay away from the soggy sandwiches in the cooler. I also liked how there was a guest laundry available as well as a refrigerator in the room. The hotel is about 30 miles from both Ft. Worth & Dallas & is convenient to both (outside of rush hour). Overall a great experience.

“a good experience at the gaylord”

I recently stayed at the hotel for a weekend. I was attending a conference at the hotel and got a special hotel rate. I then asked to upgrade and was able to do so and ended up in a very nice suite. It's whatever their highest end suite is.

I did have a problem and questions the front desk but I guess when someone quotes you a "deal" on a upgrade you should get them to write it down because I didn't get billed what I was quoted. I didn't have any proof so I gave it up.

Anyways the overall difference was only maybe 20 bucks a night so no big deal. I ended up paying around 400 a night I believe for this.

The room was very beautiful. nice bedroom and sitting area and dining area also separate desk. The pictures are about right.

We did have room service and it was very nice to have a dining room for that.

I did enjoy the wireless internet everywhere in the hotel especially when the conference got boring.

Only complaint about the room was the bathroom, it was very standard. It still had marble countertops, but the shower was just a standard shower and typically once I get to this level of price it's upgraded. I do want to say that the entire was still very clean..

I enjoyed the steakplace and the ama leur restaurants in the hotel on 2 separate evenings.. Try the millionaire margarita, you won't regret it until you get the bill..

The steak I got at old hickory is as good as any place that I have ever been.

Overall i was very impressed.

cons;

-walls are too thin.

-bathroom doesn't feel like much of an upgrade.

-did not get the price i was told I would get.

-valet parking was more expensive than in San francisco.

“Not what I expected!”

Very nice place to visit for a day and look around.
I would not stay there again.
Rooms were average.
Some of the staff was funny, most didn't want to be bothered.
Spa was very over booked!! (we cancelled our appts)
Great place for picture taking and having a drink with friends.
Not very entertaining as a I thought a resort should have been.
Quite a disappointment for our mother/daughters weekend.

“We enjoyed it!!!”

I had a great time. My wife and I decided to get away for a night for my birthday locally as We live in the DFW area. After looking at the other reviews for this place was a little worried. Did the Summerfest special which included the resort fee, the parking fee and breakfast buffet the next morning. Stayed on Friday night and enjoyed the pool. Bar service was great. Disc Jockey at pool was great. Music, and Trivia games. Ended up with three pairs of cheap sunglasses:) Night time was fun in the atrium. The gold Cowboy. The living grapevine, and the fire juggler. Indoor firework show was good. Could have replaced the Star wars music with something more western. But good. The 8th floor king corner room was great with a wonderful view of Lake Grapevine. And the breakfast was great with a huge buffet! Better than any Cruise ship I've been on. The only minus was that I ordered a hamburger at the pool and the waiter brought it with nothing on it but meat and bread. But when I asked he quickly returned with lettuce tomato and condiments. So all was fixed quickly. I will come here again when this hotel has specials such as this! Thanks Gaylord Texan, just the local getaway I needed. Oh yeah, Wife had the Deep tissue massage in the Spa and said it was the best!
